INTRODUCTION HIV infection leads to a disturbed T-cell homeostasis, featured by a depletion of CD4 T-cells and a persistent elevation of CD8 T-cells over disease progression. Most effort of managing HIV infection has been focused on CD4 T-cell recovery, while changes in the CD8 compartment were relatively underappreciated in the past. METHODS A comprehensive literature review of publications ...
Every day, Twitter users generate vast quantities of potentially useful information in the form of written language. Due to Twitter’s frequently informal tone, text normalization can be a crucial element for exploiting that information. This paper outlines our approach to text normalization used in the WNUT shared task. We show that a very simple solution, powered by a modestly sized, partially...
We show that the cut-elimination for LKT, as presented in Danos et al.(1993), simulates the normalization for classical natural deduction(CND). Particularly, the denotation for CND inherits the one for LKT. Moreover the transform from CND proof (i.e., Parigot's -term) to LKT proof can be considered as a classical extension to call-by-name (CBN) CPS-transform.
In this study, we provide mathematical and practice-driven justification for using [0,1] normalization of inconsistency indicators in pairwise comparisons. The need for normalization, as well as problems with the lack of normalization, are presented. A new type of paradox of infinity is described.
Treatment of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) in a patient with exogenous immunosuppression starts with discontinuation of immunosuppressive medication. The restored host immunity will clear JC virus, the cause of PML, from the brain via cell-mediated immune mechanisms. Patients with solid-organ transplants will lose the transplanted organ, however, and patients who have autoimm...
Flow cytometry is an established method for fast and accurate quantitation of cellular protein levels and requires fluorescently labeled antibodies as well as calibration standards. A critical step for quantitation remains the production of suitable detection antibodies with a precisely defined ratio of antigen-binding sites to fluorophores. Problems often arise as a consequence of inefficient ...
BACKGROUND Total CD4 T-cell counts predict HIV disease progression but do not necessarily reflect normalization of immune function. CD4/CD8 ratio is a marker of immune dysfunction, a prognostic indicator for non-AIDS mortality, and reflects viral reservoir size. Despite antiretroviral therapy (ART), recovery of CD4/CD8 ratio in chronic HIV infection is incomplete; we hypothesize enhanced CD4/CD...
High-throughput sequencing of DNA coding regions has become a common way of assaying genomic variation in the study of human diseases. Copy number variation (CNV) is an important type of genomic variation, but detecting and characterizing CNV from exome sequencing is challenging due to the high level of biases and artifacts. We propose CODEX, a normalization and CNV calling procedure for whole ...
To identify factors that affect normalization of laboratory measures after treatment for neurosyphilis, 59 subjects with neurosyphilis underwent repeated lumbar punctures and venipunctures after completion of therapy. The median duration of follow-up was 6.9 months. Stepwise Cox regression models were used to determine the influence of clinical and laboratory features on normalization of cerebr...
background and objective: candidiasis is a common opportunistic infection in hiv-infected patients. the spectrum of candida infection is diverse, starting from asymptomatic colonization to pathogenicforms. the low absolute cd4+ t-lymphocyte count has traditionally been cited as the greatest risk factor for the development of oropharyngeal candidiasis and current guidelines suggest increased ris...
