measles is one of the viral and extremely contagious and acute diseases of childhood affecting almost all children. prior to the discovery of the measles vaccine, the mortality from this disease was one of the highest child mortality figures, especially in the developing countries, with the death rate ranging over 5 to 10% of the infected? before the vaccination program i was launched in the co...
The detection of mycoplasma in milk can be performed by either culture techniques or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based methods. Although PCR can reduce the average diagnostic time to 5 h in comparison with the several days for the isolation of the agent, there is still a need to develop methods, which could give earlier results. For this purpose, we tested the ability of flow cytometry (FC)...
BACKGROUND Mastitis prevalence, milking procedures and management practices were investigated in 25 big dairy herds supplying milk to an Estonian dairy company. The aim of the study was to provide information for the company to be used in their new udder health improvement program to be set up after the completion of this study. METHODS Quarter milk samples were collected from 3,166 cows for ...
Camels showed clinical signs of contagious skin necrosis (CSN), with or without trypanosomosis, were subjected to study. The following samples were collected; sterile bacteriological swabs from skin necrosis area, whole blood samples for hematological analysis and for diagnosis of trypanosomosis, and serum for measuring lipid peroxidation product (Malondialdehyde, MDA). The bacteriological exam...
An integrative conjugative element, ICEA, was characterized in Mycoplasma agalactiae strain 5632, in which it occurs as multiple chromosomal copies and as a free circular form. The distribution of ICEA sequences in M. agalactiae strains and their occurrence in Mycoplasma bovis suggest the spreading of the element within or between species.
Here, we report the first whole-genome sequence of Streptococcus agalactiae strain H002, serotype III, isolated in China from a woman 32 weeks pregnant. This sequence represents an important addition to the published genomes and will promote comparative genomic studies of S. agalactiae spp. isolated from diverse regions, particularly when compared with Chinese strains.
Endogenous endophthalmitis is a rare disease caused by hematogenic germ spread from an internal focus. Infections due to Streptococcus agalactiae are infrequent in adults although new cases had been described recently associated to inmunodepression. We present a patient with endocarditis due to Streptococcus agalactiae, endophthalmitis and multiple brain abscess. We also review the literature.
The complete genome sequence from a nonhemolytic strain of Streptococcus agalactiae from the oral cavity of a canine was assembled. The genome is 2,165,968 bp, contains 2,055 genes, and is classified as group B streptococcus (GBS) serotype V, strain 1. A comparison to other S. agalactiae sequences shows high gene synteny with human and bovine strains.
Quinolone-resistant Streptococcus agalactiae bacteria were recovered from single-patient isolates and found to contain mutations in the gyrase and topoisomerase IV genes. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis demonstrated that four isolates from the same long-term care facility were closely related; in seven cases, quinolone-resistant Haemophilus influenzae and S. agalactiae bacteria were isolated f...
Streptococcus agalactiae strain 138P was isolated from the kidney of diseased Nile tilapia in Idaho during a 2007 streptococcal disease outbreak. The full genome sequence of S. agalactiae 138P is 1,838,701 bp. The availability of this genome will allow comparative genomics analysis to identify genes for antigen discovery and vaccine development.
