A reduced-order model is constructed to predict, for the lowfrequency range, the dynamical responses in the stiff parts of an automobile constituted of stiff and flexible parts. The vehicle has then many elastic modes in this range due to the presence of many flexible parts and equipments. A non-usual reduced-order model is introduced. The family of the elastic modes is not used and is replaced...
Most forecasts predict an annual airline traffic growth rate between 4.5 and 5% in the foreseeable future. To sustain that growth, the environmental impact of aircraft cannot be ignored. Future aircraft must have much better fuel economy, dramatically less greenhouse gas emissions and noise, in addition to better performance. Many technical breakthroughs must take place to achieve the aggressiv...
This workshop was concerned with the development of numerical methods for wave propagation with a focus on high-order convergence for general scattering configurations (with applicability to complex and singular geometries and high frequency problems), including integral equations, finite-difference and finite-element algorithms, spectral and Fourier based approaches and hybrids of asymptotic a...
Reduced-order observer design has a long history spanning decades and involving various researchers in the control systems society. The first results on this problem were presented by Luenberger [1]. Thereafter, several papers have been presented examining the problems from different perspectives. One of these approaches is the Sylvester equation approach. This technique aeals mainly with the c...
The high order discontinuous Galerkin solver NoisSol for the linearized acoustic equations and its application to airfoil noise simulation are presented. Aiming at the fast simulation of the noise generation and propagation in domains with complex geometries, the discretization based on unstructured grids is seen as the favorable strategy. Further important requirements for an aeroacoustic solv...
In this short note, we present a fast and reliable algorithm for evaluating special nth-order pentadiagonal Toeplitz determinants in linear time. The algorithm is suited for implementation using Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) such as MACSYMA and MAPLE. Two illustrative examples are given. 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

We consolidate the existing computational complexity analysis of genetic programming (GP) by bringing together sound theoretical proofs and empirical analysis. In particular, we address computational complexity issues arising when coupling algorithms using variable length representation, such as GP itself, with different bloat-control techniques. In order to accomplish this, we first introduce ...
The purpose of this work is to investigate the process of grammatical acquisition from data. We are using a computational learning systern that is composed of a Universal Grammar with associated parameters, and a learning algorithm, following the Principles and Parameters Theory. The Universal Grammar is implemented as a Unification-Based Generalised Categorial Grammar, embedded in a default in...
