We examined the relationships between the serum levels of chromium and cobalt ions and the inclination angle of the acetabular component and the level of activity in 214 patients implanted with a metal-on-metal resurfacing hip replacement. Each patient had a single resurfacing and no other metal in their body. All serum measurements were performed at a minimum of one year after operation. The i...

Raman spectra of ATP at various pH values are affected by addition of equimolar solution of divalent metal ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Co2+, Cu2+, and Hg2+. The changes in frequency and intensity have been used to construct models describing the nature of metal-adenine and metal-triphosphate interactions under different conditions. The metal ions are found to co-ordinate the triphosphate group in ...

Alpha-benzilmonoxime in sodium dodecylsulfate micellar media has been used for the spectrophotometric determination of cobalt at pH 9.0. The linear range of calibration is 0.05-1.50 microg cm(-3) of cobalt at 380 nm with molar absorptivity of 3.72 x 10(4) dm3 mol(-1) cm(-1), which is about 1.5-times greater than that of the alpha-benzilmonoxime extraction based method. The relative standard dev...

Cobalt-containing polyoxotitanates (TiCo) are excellent precursors for the simple and scalable preparation of Nocera-type CoOx water-oxidation electrocatalysts. The TiCo cages serve as a reservoir for cobalt ions in a titania matrix on fluoride-doped tin oxide electrodes, and form, in situ, the active CoOx catalyst for O2 evolution with high stability in phosphate buffer in pH neutral water.

keep in mind the importance of cadmium, cobalt and nickel ions as environmentally and economically strategic heavy metals, the application of two acidic extractants, named bis(2-diethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (dehpa) and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (htta), was assessed for the extraction-recovery of these ions from leached solution of spent rechargeable ni-cd batteries. the conditions for leaching ...

A highly Co (II) liquid ion-selective electrode depending on the reaction of cobalt ions with reagent 2-(5-Bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-[N-n-propyl-N-(3-sulfopropyl) amino] aniline is successfully fabricated. The characteristic slope (56.66 mV), linear range response from 3.4 × 10−8 to 2.4 10−2 molar, detection limit (2.7 10−8) selectivity coefficient toward some metal ions, time (10 s), lifetime (sev...

Monodisperse iron oxide nanocrystals were synthesized by a simplified method using iron chloride as precursor. In the presence of Cl ions, the as-produced iron oxide nanocrystals preferred a cubic shape with {100} facets exposed. The function of halogens including Cl and Br ions on stabilizing {100} facets of spinel structured iron oxides, rather than the regulation of thermolysis kinetics and ...

Paramagnetic complexes of iron (III), manganese (II), and cobalt (II) protoporphyrins IX and apohemoproteins react with nitric oxide to form spectroscopically distinct compounds. Optical and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies suggest that a l-electron transfer between nitric oxides and metal ions which occurs in these reactions results in the formation of spin-paired complexes of the...

Metallo-β-lactamases are native zinc enzymes that catalyse the hydrolysis of β-lactam antibiotics, but are also able to function with cobalt(II) and require one or two metal-ions for catalytic activity. The hydrolysis of cefoxitin, cephaloridine and benzylpenicillin catalysed by CoBcII (cobalt-substituted βlactamase from Bacillus cereus) has been studied at different pHs and metal-ion concentra...
