We define homological dimensions for S-algebras, the generalized rings that arise in algebraic topology. We compute the homological dimensions of a number of examples, and establish some basic properties. The most difficult computation is the global dimension of real K-theory KO and its connective version ko at the prime 2. We show that the global dimension of KO is 2 or 3, and the global dimen...

For any field F, the set of all functions f : V (G) → F whose sum on each maximal independent set is constant forms a vector space over F. In this paper, we show that the dimension can vary depending on the characteristic of the field. We also investigate the dimensions of these vector spaces and show that while some families, such as chordal graphs, have unbounded dimension, other families, su...

We provide a partial solution to the problem of constructing mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) and symmetric informationally complete POVMs (SIC-POVMs) in non-prime-power dimensions. An algebraic description of a SIC-POVM in dimension six is given. Furthermore it is shown that several sets of three mutually unbiased bases in dimension six are maximal, i.e., cannot be extended.

We establish the existence of an irreducible representation of An whose dimension does not occur as the dimension of an irreducible representation of Sn, and vice versa. This proves a conjecture by Tong-Viet. The main ingredient in the proof is a result on large prime factors in short intervals.

in this paper, we introduce a method by which we can find a close connection between the set of prime $z$-ideals of $c(x)$ and the same of $c(y)$, for some special subset $y$ of $x$. for instance, if $y=coz(f)$ for some $fin c(x)$, then there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the set of prime $z$-ideals of $c(y)$ and the set of prime $z$-ideals of $c(x)$ not containing $f$. moreover, c...

We develop a new approach of the quantum phase in an Hilbert space of finite dimension which is based on the relation between the physical concept of phase locking and mathematical concepts such as cyclotomy and the Ramanujan sums. As a result, phase variability looks quite similar to its classical counterpart, having peaks at dimensions equal to a power of a prime number. Squeezing of the phas...

For p > 2, β1 ∈ π 2p2−2p−2(S) is the first positive even-dimensional element in the stable homotopy groups of spheres. A classical theorem of Nishida [Nis73] states that all elements of positive dimension in the stable homotopy groups of spheres are nilpotent. In fact, Toda [Tod68] proved β 2−p+1 1 = 0. For p = 3 he showed that β 1 = 0 while β 5 1 6= 0. In [Rav86] the second author computed the...
