We compute the Chow ring of the classifying space BSO(2n, C) in the sense of Totaro using the fibration Gl(2n)/SO(2n) → BSO(2n) → BGl(2n) and a computation of the Chow ring of Gl(2n)/SO(2n) in a previous paper. We find this Chow ring is generated by Chern classes and a characteristic class defined by Edidin and Graham which maps to 2 times the Euler class under the usual class map from the Chow...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the impact of whole body C5a receptor (C5aR) deficiency on energy metabolism and fat storage. DESIGN Male wildtype (WT) and C5aR knockout (C5aRKO) mice were fed a low fat (CHOW) or a high fat high sucrose diet-induced obesity (DIO) diet for 14 weeks. Body weight and food intake were measured weekly. Indirect calorimetry, dietary fatload clearance, insulin and glucose ...

Obesity is an increasing problem and identification of the driving forces for overeating of energy-rich food is important. Previous studies show that the stress and sex steroid allopregnanolone has a hyperphagic effect on both bland food and palatable food. If allopregnanolone induces a preference for more palatable or for more energy-rich food is not known. The aim of this study was to elucida...

A partition of the positive integers into sets A and B avoids a set S ⊂ N if no two distinct elements in the same part have a sum in S. If the partition is unique, S is uniquely avoidable. For any irrational α > 1, Chow and Long constructed a partition which avoids the numerators of all convergents to α, and conjectured that the set Sα which this partition avoided was uniquely avoidable. We pro...

In this paper the arithmetic Chow groups and their product structure are extended from the category of regular arithmetic varieties to regular Deligne-Mumford stacks proper over a general arithmetic ring. The method used also gives another construction of the product on the usual Chow groups of a regular Deligne-Mumford stack.

Lax and Rader critique our use of the Chow test in our series of articles on jurisprudential regimes on the grounds that individual justices votes are not statistically independent, which constitutes a violation of assumptions underlying the Chow test. In this response we point out that the Chow tests constituted only one part of our analysis; we also conducted a sensitivity analysis to look at...

Abstract We prove that the moduli space of rational curves with cyclic action, constructed in our previous work, is realizable as a wonderful compactification complement hyperplane arrangement product projective spaces. By proving general result on such compactifications, we conclude this Chow-equivalent to an explicit toric variety (whose fan can be understood tropical version space), from whi...
