Objectives were to assess and estimate an association between exposure to ground-level ozone and emergency department (ED) visits for cellulitis. All ED visits for cellulitis in Edmonton, Canada, in the period April 1992-March 2002 (N = 69,547) were examined. Orbital cellulitis is an emergency. Confusion still exists between the diagnosis of this serious condition and that of preseptal cellulitis. Delay in treatment may cause blindness and progression to life-threatening sequelae such as brain abscess, meningitis or cavernous sinus thrombosis. We report a case in which, despite late referral, emergency surgical intervention was sight saving.

It has been isolated from human blood, spinal fluid, and abscesses, but cellulitis associated with bacteremia is rare. We report its isolation from a blood culture of a human patient with cellulitis as well as difficulties encountered in determining the identity of the subspecies of C. fetus.
