Some features found on chest computed tomography (CT), such as central tumor location, large pleural effusion, and the absence of a pleural tail, and a patient age of less than 60 years, have been suggested to be useful in predicting anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).A 68-year-old female patient with a history of gynecological tre...

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of death from infectious disease worldwide with 80,000 pediatric deaths annually. Disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is usually asymptomatic in pediatric patients and resolves after completion of standard therapy with isoniazid (INH). Rare reports document children greater than 10 years of age in endemic regions developing adult type cav...

Inherited white matter diseases are rare and heterogeneous disorders usually encountered in infancy. Adult-onset forms are increasingly recognized. Our objectives were to determine relative frequencies of genetic leukoencephalopathies in a cohort of adult-onset patients and to evaluate the effectiveness of a systematic diagnostic approach. Inclusion criteria of this retrospective study were: (i...

During advanced AIDS tuberculosis (TB) often presents atypically with smear-negative and non-cavitary disease, yet immune features associated with this change are poorly characterized. We examined the local immune response in a cohort of Tanzanian AIDS-associated TB patients who underwent bronchoalveolar lavage. TB infection was confirmed in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid by culture, probe ...

Mycobacterium shimoidei was isolated from the sputum of a man hospitalized for cavitary pulmonary disease. This is the fourth isolation of M. shimoidei to be reported; the organism has also been isolated in Japan, Australia, and Germany.

We describe a case of pulmonary malacoplakia and Rhodococcus equi cavitary pneumonia in a patient with AIDS. The relationship between Rhodococcus equi, a rare bacterial human pathogen, and malacoplakia, an unusual type of chronic granulomatous inflammation, is discussed.

A case of cavitary pulmonary disease caused by Mycobacterium heckeshornense in Uruguay is described. This is the first case reported in the Latin America and Caribbean region, showing that this species is a worldwide opportunistic human pathogen.

Three white male patients with advanced cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis presented with HOA. No other pathology to explain the osteoarthropathy was detected. The osteoarthropathy responded symptomatically to NSAI drugs and treatment of tuberculosis but resolved radiologically in only one patient.

In this paper, we investigate relation between weak subdifferential and augmented normal cone. We define augmented normal cone via weak subdifferential and vice versa. The necessary conditions for the global maximum are also stated. We produce preliminary properties of augmented normal cones and discuss them via the distance function. Then we obtain the augmented normal cone for the indicator f...

‎The aim of this paper is to establish the equivalence between the concepts‎ ‎of an $S$-metric space and a cone $S$-metric space using some topological‎ ‎approaches‎. ‎We introduce a new notion of a $TVS$-cone $S$-metric space using‎ ‎some facts about topological vector spaces‎. ‎We see that the known results on‎ ‎cone $S$-metric spaces (or $N$-cone metric spaces) can be directly obtained‎ from...
