Covered with Pt: A uniform catalyst profile that ensures effective radial charge collection from high-aspect-ratio Si nanowires was achieved by atomic layer deposition of Pt nanoparticles. The resulting photoelectrode permits the measurement of high photovoltages and low overpotentials, and leads to very good stability against photooxidation of Si nanowires in solar water-reduction reactions.

A new class of silica-based zeolite capsule catalyst was readily prepared employing a dual-layer method under close-to-neutral conditions. In a tandem catalysis process, the precisely controlled synthesis of dimethyl ether was realized. This new concept of H-type zeolite shell preparation and application represents a powerful approach for preparing high-performance, multifunctional catalysts.

A thin nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon layer is elaborately introduced into the Pt/C surface to not only inhibit migration and dissolution of Pt nanoparticles, but also impart activity to the integral catalyst without blocking the inner Pt catalytic active sites. The corrosion of the carbon support can also be alleviated due to the outer graphitic coverage.
