The concentration and composition of suspended particulate food available to estuarine suspension-feeding bivalve molluscs varies temporarily and spatially. Non-algal food sources may be important to suspension-feeders when algal concentrations are seasonally low or where there are high concentrations of suspended detrital material and bacteria, as found withln marshes. We carried out a series ...
A new species, Hyphodiscus stereicola, is described based on material from Northern Europe, the Canary Islands, and North America. In all of these, greenish apothecia grew on decayed basidiomata of Stereum spp. Morphology and host specialisation of the new species are compared with those of other members of the genus.

This work presents a virtual flight simulator that allows a precise and smooth real-time experience on the “El Hierro” island (Canary Islands). Development tasks and results are presented that demonstrate the stages of the project with the major features developed within the work.
Two tributyrin hydrolysis-negative Moraxella isolates obtained in cases of keratoconjunctivitis in Camelus dromedarius in the Canary Islands showed highest degrees of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Moraxella canis. A level of DNA relatedness to the M. canis type strain of 79% confirmed the identity of the isolates as a tributyrin hydrolysis-negative biovar of M. canis.
Sperm whales are present in the Canary Islands year-round, suggesting that the archipelago is an important area for this species in the North Atlantic. However, the area experiences one of the highest reported rates of sperm whale ship-strike in the world. Here we investigate if the number of sperm whales found in the archipelago can sustain the current rate of ship-strike mortality. The result...
Introduction A clinical study was initiated to investigate a caries detection device (The Canary System (CS)), based on photothermal radiometry and modulated luminescence (PTR-LUM). The primary objective of this study was to determine if PTR-LUM values (in the form of Canary Numbers; CN) correlate with International Caries Diagnostic and Assessment System (ICDAS II) scores and clinical situatio...
