A novel series of imidazol-5-yl carbinols and their 4-chlorobenzoyl esters has been synthesized by the Grignard reaction and subsequent esterification. These compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities in an agar diffusion assay. The compounds with C10 to C12-alkyl side chains displayed significant antimycotic activity.

The dispersion coefficients C6, C8, and C10 for the interactions between H, He, and Li are calculated using variational wave functions in Hylleraas basis sets with multiple exponential scale factors. We take a fresh look at Theil’s BLUS residuals and ask why they have gone out of fashion. All our simulation experiments indicate that tests based on BLUS residuals have higher power than those based on the more popular recursive residuals, even in those cases (structural breaks) where intuition would favour the recursive residuals. A series of arabino N-glycosyl sulfamides, forced to adopt the furanose form by removal of the 5-hydroxyl group, were synthesised as putative isosteric mimics of decaprenolphosphoarabinose, the donor processed by arabinosyltransferases during mycobacterial cell wall assembly.
