A new solution to the coupled gravitational and scalar field equations for a condensed boson field is found in Newtonian approximation. The solution is axially symmetric, but not spherically symmetric. For N particles the mass of the object is given by M = Nm − 0.02298NG N m, to be compared with M = Nm− 0.05426NG N m for the spherically symmetric case. Recent developments in particle physics an...
The Hilbert spaces of the edge excitations of several " paired " fractional quantum Hall states, namely the Pfaffian, Haldane-Rezayi and 331 states, are constructed and the states at each angular momentum level are enumerated. The method is based on finding all the zero energy states for those Hamiltonians for which each of these known ground states is the exact, unique, zero-energy eigenstate ...
Radiative symmetry breaking is a well known phenomenon in perturbation theory. We study the problem in a non-perturbative framework, i.e. lattice simulations. The example of the bosonic sector of the SU(2)-Higgs model is considered. We determine the minimal scalar mass which turns out to be higher than the mass value given by 1-loop continuum perturbation theory.
A ‘canonical mapping’ is established between the c = −1 system of bosonic ghosts and the c = 2 complex scalar theory and, a similar mapping between the c = −2 system of fermionic ghosts and the c = 1 Dirac theory. The existence of this mapping is suggested by the identity of the characters of the respective theories. The respective c < 0 and c > 0 theories share the same space of states, wherea...
We present two Fermi-Bose models with an approximate supersymmetry and which can be solved numerically with great accuracy using the renormalization group method. The bosonic parts of these models consist in Dyson’s hierarchical model with one and two scalar components respectively. We discuss the question of the perturbative cancellations of divergences and compare with the non-perturbative fi...
We propose a modification of the partial wave approach to deal with relativistic quantum scattering bosonic and fermionic particles in class models concerning gravitating cosmic string spacetimes. These spacetimes are characterized by Minkowski line element at center vortex, non-vanishing curvature finite distance from but conical structure far core. find correction expansion phase shift. It has been shown that certain W algebras can be linearised by the inclusion of a spin–1 current. This provides a way of obtaining new realisations of the W algebras. Recently such new realisations of W3 were used in order to embed the bosonic string in the critical and non-critical W3 strings. In this paper, we consider similar embeddings in W2,4 and W2,6 strings. The linearisation of W2,4 is ...
We study duality of field theories in (d+1) dimensional flat Euclidean space and (d+1) dimensional Euclidean AdS space for both scalar the and vector fields. In the case of the scalar theory, the injective map between conformally coupled massless scalars in two spaces is reviewed. It is shown that for vector fields the injective map exists only in four dimensions. Since Euclidean AdS space is e...
This note will use Hitchin’s generalized geometry and a model of axionic gravity developed by Warren Siegel in the mid-nineties to show that the construction of Lagrangians based on the inner product arising from the pairing of a vector and its dual can lead naturally to the low-energy Lagrangian of the bosonic string. PACS numbers: 02.40.-k, 04.20.-q, 11.25.-w String theory is one of the most ...
