The pineal region can be affected by different types of lesions, ranging from benign masses (e.g. pineal cysts) to highly malignant tumors. These neoplasms are typical of the pediatric age, while they are rarer in adults. Due to the extreme heterogeneity of the cell types of the pineal gland and its surrounding structures, these tumors include several entities, namely germ cell tumors (GCTs), w...

In this paper, we concentrate on determining homogeneously colored regions invariant to surface orientation change, illumination, shadows and highlights. To this end, the influence of various well-known color models (e.g. I , RGB, XY Z, I1I2I3, rgb, xyz, U V W , L a b and ISH) are examined, in theory, for the dichromatic reflection model and, in practice, for two distinct region-based segmentat...

We present a highly expressive logical language for describing qualitative con gurations of spatial regions. We call the theory Region Based Geometry (RBG). Our axiomatisation is based on Tarski's Geometry of Solids, in which the parthood relation and the concept of sphere are taken as primitive. We show that our theory is categorical: all models are isomorphic to a classical interpretation in ...

We propose a region-based method to extract foreground regions from colour video sequences. The foreground region is decided by voting with scores from background subtraction to the sub-regions by graphbased segmentation. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm improves on conventional approaches especially in strong shadow regions.

AbstractIn spite of their non-isotropic nature, local growths based on 4-connected or 8-connected neighborhoods are frequently used for binary image dilation, mostly because they are very easy to implement. Altough better dilation techniques exist, they usually require bigger masks, more complex routines, exotical grid definitions or globally processing the image. In this article we propose a n...

A nucleosoroe-free region or gap containing the or igin of repl icat ion and the transcriptional promoter elenents 1s observed on 20 to 25% of the SV40 mini chromosomes Isolated at physiological 1on1c strength late In In fec t ion. We used the preferential sens i t iv i ty of the gapped minichromosomes to rest r ic t ion enzymes to obtain sucrose gradient fractions containing 50 to 80% of gappe...

Of the many proposed image segmentation methods, region growing has been one of the most popular. Research on region growing, however, has focused primarily on the design of feature measures and on growing and merging criteria. Most of these methods have an inherent dependence on the order in which the points and regions are examined. This weakness implies that a desired segmented result is sen...
