The process of generating a nite element mesh is accelerated by integrating physical and geometrical constraints into the initial mesh. By beginning with a near-optimal initial mesh, fewer iterations of reenement are needed to obtain mesh convergence. We apply this algorithm to large-scale bioelectric eld problems involving the complex geometries of the human body.

The effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Klebsiella pneumoniae on the bioelectric properties of canine cultured tracheal epithelium was examined. LPS decreased short-circuit current (Isc), and its effects on Isc were reduced when Isc was inhibited by amiloride and indomethacin. We speculate that LPS may selectively inhibit Na+ absorption through the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by a...

Two new cancer therapies apply bioelectric principles. These methods target tumor structures locally and function by applying millisecond electric fields to deliver plasmid DNA encoding cytokines using electrogene transfer (EGT) or by applying rapid rise-time nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs). EGT has been used to locally deliver cytokines such as IL-12 to activate an immune response, ...

The scaling relationship between the size of an appendage or organ and that of the body as a whole is tightly regulated during animal development. If a structure grows at a different rate than the rest of the body, this process is termed allometric growth. The zebrafish another longfin (alf) mutant shows allometric growth resulting in proportionally enlarged fins and barbels. We took advantage ...

Topics identification (TI) is the process that consists in determining the main themes present in natural language documents. The current TI modeling paradigm aims at acquiring semantic information from statistic properties of large text datasets. We investigate the mental mechanisms responsible for the identification of topics in a single document given existing knowledge. Our main hypothesis ...
