We describe the synthesis of the N-(2-seleninatoethyl) amide of N-Boc-phenylalanine, serving here as a peptide model, and its reductive coupling reactions under mild conditions with unprotected thiouridine and glutathione. Selenosulfide products such as these comprise reversibly conjugated bio-components, and can potentially find uses as probes of biological function, such as enzyme inhibitors,...

This paper gives a synthesis of this special issue on the sensitivity to climate change of the main bio-physical processes in the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalayas. It also describes the impacts on the water resources with a special focus on the Ganges. Consequences of changes in water resources and possible adaptation measures for different sectors are discussed.

In this report, we have designed a simple and efficient green chemistry approach for the synthesis of colloidal silver nanoparticles (b-AgNPs) that is formed by the reduction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution using Olax scandens leaf extract. The colloidal b-AgNPs, characterized by various physico-chemical techniques exhibit multifunctional biological activities (4-in-1 system). Firstly, bio-s...

We report the design and synthesis of Ir-complex functionalized CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs), in which the QD plays a key role in imaging, while the Ir-complex acts as a sensitizer to produce singlet oxygen; this conceptual design presents a novel scheme in both bio-imaging and photodynamic therapy.

A general synthesis of 3-amidoindoles from easily available arylhydrazines and acylated propargylamines is described. In the presence of inexpensive Zn salts, alkyne amination and subsequent Fischer indole-cyclization took place in good yields with excellent regioselectivity providing an interesting scaffold for potentially bio-active compounds.

Biotin is one of the water-soluble vitamins which plays an important role as a covalently bound coenzyme for carboxylases in fatty acid synthesis, gluconeogenesis and branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) metabolism in mammals. This vitamin is widely distributed in various foods and produced in intestinal microflora. Biotin deficiency is rare in general dietary habits. However, biotin deficiency In...

Synthesis and chemiluminescent properties of a new 1,2-dioxetane chemiluminophore bearing a 7-hydroxycoumarin moiety are presented. The 1,2-dioxetane decomposition ended up with strong and long-lived emission of light. This new structure opens way to the development of a new generation of bright chemiluminescent bio-probes.

One-pot synthesis of well-defined bio-renewable polyesters and cyclic carbonates in high yields was successfully realized for the first time by way of a tandem reaction using metal salen complexes as catalysts. This tandem process offered unprecedented opportunities for the atom-efficient production of two relevant compounds.

An efficient synthesis of original bio-reductive probes suitable for the detection of azoreductases from the fluorescent rhodamine 110 dye is presented. A "turn-on" green fluorescence response upon reduction of the two diazo bonds of these latent fluorophores was observed both in vitro and in the context of bacterial cultures.

A novel strategy for the synthesis of CF-AuNMs by reducing HAuCl(4) with ABEI in aqueous solution at room temperature is reported. No additional stabilizing and reducing reagents are needed, and various morphologies of CF-AuNMs can be obtained. It could be used as bio-probe for bioassays.
