Module identification is a frequently used approach for mining local structures with more significance in global networks. Recently, a wide variety of bilayer networks are emerging to characterize the more complex biological processes. In the light of special topological properties of bilayer networks and the accompanying challenges, there is yet no effective method aiming at bilayer module ide...

We report on the observation of the spin Seebeck effect in antiferromagnetic MnF_{2}. A device scale on-chip heater is deposited on a bilayer of MnF_{2} (110) (30  nm)/Pt (4 nm) grown by molecular beam epitaxy on a MgF_{2} (110) substrate. Using Pt as a spin detector layer, it is possible to measure the thermally generated spin current from MnF_{2} through the inverse spin Hall effect. The low ...

With the continued maturation of III-V nanowire research, expectations of material quality should be concomitantly raised. Ideally, III-V nanowires integrated on silicon should be entirely free of extended planar defects such as twins, stacking faults, or polytypism, position-controlled for convenient device processing, and gold-free for compatibility with standard complementary metal-oxide-sem...

Dangling bonds at the edge of a nanopore in monolayer graphene make it susceptible to back-filling at low temperatures from atmospheric hydrocarbons, leading to potential instability for nanopore applications, such as DNA sequencing. We show that closed edge nanopores in bilayer graphene are robust to back-filling under atmospheric conditions for days. A controlled method for closed edge nanopo...

We propose a transient interlayer compression in two-dimensional compound materials by using an intense IR laser resonant with the out-of-plane optical phonon mode (A(2u) mode). As a test case, we studied bilayer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), which is one of the compound layered materials. Excited state molecular dynamics calculations using time-dependent density functional theory show an 11....

The present work envisages synthesis of magnetic nanocomposites by ion beam mixing technique using swift heavy ion irradiation of Ni-Teflon bilayer system and its magnetic characterizations. The nanocomposite is characterized by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and superconducting quantum interference device (S...

The impacts of the two-beam interference heating on the number of core-shell and embedded nanoparticles and on nanostructure coarsening are studied numerically based on the non-linear dynamical model for dewetting of the pulsed-laser irradiated, thin (< 20 nm) metallic bilayers. The model incorporates thermocapillary forces and disjoining pressures, and assumes dewetting from the optically tran...

The heart is a continually active pulsatile fluid pump. It generates appropriate forces by precisely timed and spaced engagement of its contractile machinery. Largely, it makes its own control signals, the most crucial of which are precisely timed and spaced fluxes of ions across the sarcolemma, achieved by the timely opening and closing of diverse voltage-gated channels (VGC). VGCs have four v...

We report the generation and detection of spin–orbit torque ferromagnetic resonance (STFMR) in micropatterned epitaxial Fe/Pt bilayers grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The magnetic field dependent measurements at an in-plane angle 45° with respect to microwave-current direction reveal presence two distinct voltage peaks indicative a strong anisotropy. show that STFMR can be employed probe under...
