A stereoselective method for alkylation of bicyclo[2.2.2]octenones and their 3,3-sigmatropic shift leading to cis-decalins containing various types of appendages is described. A simple and convenient method for the introduction of a butenyl chain onto the bicyclooctenones employing 1,4-dibromobutane as an equivalent of 4-bromobutene, was developed.

New sydnone derivatives have been synthesized and screened for their capacity to undergo fast copper-free cycloaddition reaction with bicyclo-[6.1.0]-nonyne. The influences of substitution in positions N-3 and C-4 of sydnones have been particularly studied leading to the identification of highly reactive partners for bio-orthogonal ligation reactions.

Norbornapeptides (bicyclo[2.2.1]heptapeptides) and related bicyclic homodetic peptides were prepared by solid-phase peptide synthesis using an orthogonal protection scheme. These conformationally rigid peptides cover an almost pristine area of peptide topological space and adopt globular shapes similar to those of short α-helical peptides.

N-allylynamides with various functional groups and different substitution patterns can be converted into 3-aza-bicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-one derivatives in moderate to high yield using IMesAuCl/AgBF4 as the catalyst and pyridine N-oxide as the oxidant. A noncarbene mediated approach is proposed as the mechanism.

Reactions of dibromocyclopropane 2a, containing two spiro-fused 1,3-dioxane rings, with MeLi gave only the methylation products 8 and 9 even at elevated temperatures. In contrast, the cyclohexane analogue 2b treated with MeLi underwent a smooth rearrangement to bicyclo[1.1.0]butane 11b at -78, -10, or +35 degrees C. Treatment of 2a with PhLi gave the alpha-Ph anion 13 as the only product, which...

The gold(I)-catalyzed intramolecular reaction of allenes with oxoalkenes leads to bicyclo[6.3.0]undecane ring systems, although in the case of terminally disubstituted allenes, seven-membered rings are formed. The related intermolecular addition of aldehydes to allenenes also gives seven-membered rings.

The title compound, C(7)H(14)BrN(2) (+)·Br(-), was prepared by nucleophilic substitution of DABCO (systematic name: 1,4-diaza-bicyclo-[2.2.2]octa-ne) with dibromo-methane in acetone. The structure features Br⋯H close contacts (2.79 and 2.90 Å) as well as a weak bromine-bromide inter-action [3.6625 (6) Å].

The enantioselective asymmetric gold-catalyzed cycloisomerization reactions of heteroatom tethered 1,6-enynes are conducted in the presence of a chiral cationic Au(i) catalyst ((R)-4-MeO-3,5-(t-Bu)(2)-MeOBIPHEP-(AuCl)(2)/AgOTf system) in toluene under mild conditions and lead to functionalized bicyclo[4.1.0]heptene derivatives in excellent enantiomeric excesses ranging from 90-98%.

The exomethylenes of 2,6-disubstituted bicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-ones 2 are readily isomerized over a palladium catalyst under an atmosphere of hydrogen to predominantly form the isomer 3 with C2 symmetry with very little formation of the analogous product with C(s) symmetry. A hydrogen source is essential to effect the rearrangement.

The valence isomerization of the all-carbon and heteroelement analogues of cyclohepta-1,3,5-triene into the corresponding bicyclo[4.1.0]hepta-2,4-dienes is reviewed to show the impact of the heteroatom on the stability of both valence isomers. The focus is on the parent systems and their synthetic applications.
