GSH is rapidly oxidized by HOCl (hypochlorous acid), which is produced physiologically by the neutrophil enzyme myeloperoxidase. It is converted into, mainly, oxidized glutathione. Glutathione sulfonamide is an additional product that is proposed to be covalently bonded between the cysteinyl thiol and amino group of the gamma-glutamyl residue of GSH. We have developed a sensitive liquid chromat...

We report the synthesis and characterization of the pyrrole sulfonamide as a new class of potential molecular receptors, including conformational analysis and molecular recognition studies for four pyrrole sulfonamide derivatives.

We identified a previously undocumented mutation in the dihydropteroate synthase (folP) gene associated with Neisseria meningitidis sulfonamide resistance. A PCR-based assay to detect this mutation, which is 100% predictive of sulfonamide resistance, was developed.

Glutamate synthase, isolated in apparently homogeneous form (Mr approximately 265,000) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae after 7500-fold purification, is markedly inhibited by homocysteine sulfonamide. Inhibitions competitive with respect to L-glutamine; the apparent Ki value calculated for L-homocysteine sulfonamide is 3.6 microM; the apparent Km value for L-glutamine is 280 microM. The very high ...

Abstract Sulfonamide antibiotics like sulfamethazine (SMZ) can threaten aquatic and terrestrial life even in small concentrations (? 1 mg/L); hence, their removal from wastewater is indispensable. However, the need to explore new promising adsorbents that are cheap, effective, reusable also remains crucial developing adsorption technology. This work presents a one-pot solvent-free conversion of...

BACKGROUND Antibiotics are biocides or products that inhibit the growth of microorganisms in the living cells and there are extensive works directed to develop efficient antimicrobial agents. The sulfonamide-containing polymers have great potential to resist gram-positive or gram-negative bacterial and fungal attacks. As a therapeutic agent, the sulfonamides have been reported as antitumor and ...
