The problem of testing equality of several binomial proportions to a speci)ed standard is considered. An exact method of testing based on the test statistic considered in Kulkarni and Shah (Statist. Probab. Lett. 25 (1995) 213) is proposed. Exact properties of the exact method and the approximate method due to Kulkarni and Shah are evaluated numerically for the two-sample case. Numerical studie...
The Mumford-Shah functional, introduced to study image segmentation problems, is approximated in the sense of F-convergence by a séquence of intégral functionals defined on piecewise affine functions. Résumé. La fonctionnelle de Mumford et Shah, proposée pour l'étude du problème de la segmentation d'images, est approchée au sens de la F-convergence par une suite de fonctionnelles intégrales déf...
Writers of the travel logs in the second period of Safavid rule have given narrative accounts of the status of ethnic-religious minorities, through which the identity issue of minorities and its role in diverging them from the body of government can be identified. In these narratives, both the minority groups that entered into Iran as a result of Shah Abbas's structural policies, and the ethnic...
This paper presents a novel adaptive vision system for accurate segmentation of tissue structures in echographic medical images. The proposed vision system incorporates a level-set deformable model based on a modified Mumford-Shah functional, which is estimated over sparse foreground and background regions in the image. This functional is designed so that it copes with the intensity inhomogenei...
haft-peykar (or bahram-nameh) is the fourth nizami’s verse composition in terms of time and one of his masterpieces besides his khosrow and shirin. haft-peykar consists of two general parts: the first part is about bahram and his life and the second one is about the stories of his seven wives. the structure of the book makes it possible to be criticized through a formalistic approach. the chara...

The rule of the Safavids in Iran provided the perfect basis for the widespread political and social activities of the Shiite scholars, and they not only maintained good relations with the Safavids but also assumed the highest religious positions in the government. This collaboration was the result of a shift in the jurisprudential political views of the scholars that had previously been unprece...
Using a calibration method we prove that, if Γ ⊂ Ω is a closed regular hypersurface and if the function g is discontinuous along Γ and regular outside, then the function uβ which solves { ∆uβ = β(uβ − g) in Ω \ Γ ∂νuβ = 0 on ∂Ω ∪ Γ is in turn discontinuous along Γ and it is the unique absolute minimizer of the nonhomogeneous Mumford-Shah functional
Text line segmentation in handwritten documents is an important step in document processing. We present a new text line segmentation method based on the Mumford-Shah model. The algorithm is script independent. In addition, we use morphing to remove overlaps between neighboring text lines and connect broken ones. Experimental results show the validity of our method.
