The effects of variation of the grating separation in a stretcher on the carrier-envelope (CE) phase of amplified pulses are investigated. By translating one of the telescope mirrors in the stretcher with a piezoelectric transducer, it is found that a 1 mum change of the distance causes a 3.7+/-1.2 rad shift of the CE phase, which is consistent with theoretical estimations. The results indicate...

This paper is concerned with problem of signalling congestion link price information to a receiver using single bit marks. An efficient method was presented in [1] which exploits side information in the IPid field of the IP header to allow the maximum price on a flow’s path to be estimated. In this paper we provide analysis to support the claim that the scheme can track a changing price. We con...

Semi-active base isolation system has been proposed mainly to mitigate the base drift of isolated structures while in most cases, its application causes the maximum acceleration of superstructure to be increased. In this paper, designing optimal semi-active base isolation system composed of linear base isolation system with low damping and magneto-rheological (MR) damper has been studied for co...

In this paper, we propose a very simple, but efficient two-stage MDC in the central prediction loop based on Reibman’s threeprediction-loop structure [7]. In our design, an additional multiple description scalar quantizer (MDSQ) is introduced into the central prediction loop. The encoding of the side information is modified in such a way that it can be used to improve the video quality when no ...

We propose a strategy for updating the learning rate parameter of online linear classifiers for streaming data with concept drift. The change in the learning rate is guided by the change in a running estimate of the classification error. In addition, we propose an online version of the standard linear discriminant classifier (O-LDC) in which the inverse of the common covariance matrix is update...

In this article we consider a Brownian motion with drift, denoted by S = (St)t≥0, of the form dSt = μtdt+ dBt for t ≥ 0, with a specific non-trivial drift predictable with respect to F , the natural filtration of the Brownian motion B = (Bt)t≥0. We construct a process H = (Ht)t≥0 also predictable with respect to F B such that ((H · S)t)t≥0 is a Brownian motion in its own filtration. Furthermore...

In this paper, simple and general Order-Up-To (OUT) models with Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) forecast for the AR(1) demand pattern are introduced in the control engineering perspective. Important insights about lead-time misidentification are derived from the analysis of variance discrepancy. By applying the Final Value Theorem (FVI), a final value offset (i.e., inventory drift) is proved t...

The paper focuses on the design of a CMOS analog ASIC for temperature-drift compensation of a high sensitivity piezoresistive micro-machined porous silicon pressure sensor to avoid analog-to-digital conversion, limit chip area and reduce power consumption. For implementing the compensation circuitry, multilayered perceptron (MLP) based artificial neural network (ANN) with inverse delayed functi...

An evaluation of a low-cost, small sized solid state accelerometer is described in this paper. The sensor is intended for positioning of a mobile robot or platform. Acceleration signal outputted by the sensor is doubly integrated with time which yields the traveled distance. Bias offset drift exhibits in the acceleration signal is accumulative and the accuracy of the distance measurement deteri...

Pedestrian dead reckoning is a common technique applied in indoor inertial navigation systems that is able to provide accurate tracking performance within short distances. Sensor drift is the main bottleneck in extending the system to long-distance and long-term tracking. In this paper, a hybrid system integrating traditional pedestrian dead reckoning based on the use of inertial measurement un...
