Topical treatment for oral candidiasis is not as effective when there is esophageal involvement. Topical treatments include nystatin, amphotericin B solution, and miconazole tablets. Systemic therapy given orally includes the azoles, of which fluconazole remains the most effective commonly prescribed. Voriconazole is effective against some resistant strains of Candida. Echinocandins, a newer cl...

Time-kill and postantifungal effect (PAFE) of amphotericin B, caspofungin, fluconazole, and voriconazole were determined against clinical isolates of Candida guilliermondii, Candida kefyr, and Candida lusitaniae. Azoles displayed fungistatic activity and no measurable PAFE, regardless of the concentration tested. Amphotericin B and caspofungin demonstrated concentration-dependent fungicidal act...

We reported herein efficient green procedures for the synthesis of arene-linked bis(azoles) and bis(azines) using bis(enaminone) as a key intermediate. For this purpose, were reacted with different nucleophiles under pressurized reaction “Q-tube system” to afford target bis(azines). The structures compounds confirmed via considering their elemental analyses well spectral data. used protocol sho...

Antifungal azoles (e.g., fluconazole) are widely used for prophylaxis or treatment of Candida albicans infections in immunocompromised individuals, such as those with AIDS. These individuals are frequently treated with a variety of additional antimicrobial agents. Potential interactions between three azoles and 16 unrelated drugs (antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiprotozoal agents) ...

Combination therapy could be of use for the treatment of fungal infections, especially those caused by drug-resistant fungi. However, the methods and approaches used for data generation and result interpretation need further optimizing. The fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) is the most commonly used method, but it has several drawbacks in characterizing antifungal drug interactio...

OBJECTIVES Bovine mammary protothecosis is a serious pathology that entails high economic losses in the dairy industry. The disease, the frequency of which has recently been increasing worldwide, is caused by unicellular, achlorophyllous, yeast-like algae of two species: Prototheca zopfii and Prototheca blaschkeae. The objective of this study was to investigate the in vitro activity of a panel ...

A new iron-catalyzed, direct C-H amination of azoles at C2 has been developed by using formamides or amines as nitrogen sources. Imidazole is the only additive in the catalyst system and oxygen in air is employed during the transformation process.

Isavuconazole is an extended-spectrum triazole with in vitro activity against a wide variety of fungal pathogens. Clinical isolates of molds Aspergillus lentulus and Neosartorya udagawae and yeast Cryptococcus gattii VGII (implicated in the outbreak in the Pacific Northwest, North America) exhibit reduced susceptibilities to several azoles but higher susceptibilities to isavuconazole.
