The measurement of auditory evoked potentials (AEPs) has proven to be a useful tool for examining the auditory physiology of odontocete cetaceans and there is growing interest in applying this electrophysiological approach to study the hearing of other marine mammals. The aim of the current investigation was to examine some of the basic measurement and response characteristics of the auditory b...

Models of the human auditory periphery range from very basic functional descriptions of auditory filtering to detailed computational models of cochlear mechanics, inner-hair cell (IHC), auditory-nerve (AN) and brainstem signal processing. It is challenging to include detailed physiological descriptions of cellular components into human auditory models because single-cell data stems from invasiv...

introduction: one of the most common pathologies in neonates is hyperbilirubinemia, which is a good marker for damage to the central nervous system. the sensitivity of the auditory system to bilirubin has been previously documented, with much discrepancy in its effects on auditory brainstem response results. thus the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of hyperbilirubinemia on a...

This study examines auditory brainstem responses (ABR) elicited by rising frequency chirps. The time course of frequency change for the chirp theoretically produces simultaneous displacement maxima by compensating for travel-time differences along the cochlear partition. This broadband chirp was derived on the basis of a linear cochlea model [de Boer, "Auditory physics. Physical principles in h...

BACKGROUND There are about 1.6 billion GSM cellular phones in use throughout the world today. Numerous papers have reported various biological effects in humans exposed to electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phones. The aim of the present study was to advance our understanding of potential adverse effects of the GSM mobile phones on the human hearing system. METHODS Auditory Brainstem Re...

We present the first case of central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) confirmed by high resolution computerized tomography (CT) in which auditory brainstem responses (ABR) revealed impaired conduction beyond the mid pons. The combined use of CT and ABR in the diagnosis of central pontine myelinolysis is discussed.

Auditory feedback influences the development of vocalizations in songbirds and parrots; however, little is known about the development of hearing in these birds. The auditory brainstem response was used to track the development of auditory sensitivity in budgerigars from hatch to 6 weeks of age. Responses were first obtained from 1-week-old at high stimulation levels at frequencies at or below ...

Introduction: In the present study, was performed to investigate the relationship between toluene(1000 ppm), noise, toluene and toluene along with noise (frequencies 250- 2000 Hz) per auditory Brain Stem response (ABR) on rabbits in which being exposed to this contaminants.   Materials & Methods: Three months old, male adult white New Zealand rabbits (1400-1700 g body weight) were used throug...

Many reports in the last 15 years have assessed changes auditory brainstem response (ABR) waveform after insults such as noise exposure. Common include reductions peak 1 amplitude and relative latencies of later peaks, well increased central gain, which is reflected by a increase amplitudes peaks compared to 1. experimenters identify troughs visually assess their heights latencies, laborious pr...
