Michaelis-Arbuzov reactions of S-aryl disulfide derivatives of 3'-thiothymidine or 5'-thioadenosine with tris(trimethylsilyl) phosphite proceeded in high yields to the corresponding phosphorothiolate monoesters. Subsequent hydrolytic desilylation and phosphate coupling were effected in one-pot using liquid-assisted grinding in a vibration ball mill. Novel 3',5'- and 5',5'-pyrophosphorothiolate-...

A label-free double amplification system has been developed by using a ternary DNA probe containing the poly(adenine-thymine) sequence assisted by exonuclease III degradation. The method achieved more than 600-fold signal amplification and allowed sensitive detection of single-stranded DNA and thrombin at the pM level by using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.

Liquid-assisted grinding allows the rapid, waste-free and one-pot synthesis of a variety of magnesium drug derivatives directly from the excipient MgO; such reactivity is relevant for the behaviour of ibuprofen formulations involving MgO and can be used for oxide-based mechanosynthesis of metal-organic salts, discrete complexes and carboxylate clusters involving magnesium and pharmaceutically a...

DNA origami has been used to orchestrate reactions with nano-precision using a variety of biomolecules. Here, the dynamics of albumin-assisted, localized single-molecule DNA polymerization by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase on a 2D DNA origami are monitored using AFM in liquid. Direct visualization of the surface activity revealed the mechanics of growth.

The microwave-assisted three-component reactions of 3,5-bis(E)-arylmethylidene]tetrahydro-4(1H)-pyridinones, acenaphthenequinone and cyclic α-amino acids in an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, occurred through a domino sequence affording structurally intriguing diazaheptacyclic cage-like compounds in excellent yields.

Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) has transformed proteomics by providing an avenue for collecting spatially distributed molecular data. Functional data acquired with matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) IMS consist of tens of thousands of spectra, measured at regular grid points across the surface of a tissue section. Unlike the more standard liquid chromatography mass spectrometr...

Hexagonal (h-WO3) mesocrystals with biconical morphology were prepared by a straightforward ionic liquid-assisted hydrothermal route and investigated as anodic materials for lithium-ion batteries. Compared to the alternatives, the biconical tungsten trioxide mesocrystal exhibited excellent lithium insertion with good cyclability and rate capability, making it a promising candidate as the anode ...

Two-dimensional tungsten disulphide flakes are developed via a two solvent grinding assisted liquid phase exfoliation method. Our investigations show the distinct advantages of this approach that include reduced residues of the solvent used, high yield and creating relatively thin flakes suitable for electronic, optical, catalytic and energy storage applications.

The Pb-assisted growth of Ge nanowires (NWs) has been investigated under high and low pressure conditions via thermal decomposition of diphenylgermane. Highly crystalline Ge NWs were obtained and Pb was established as a viable growth promoter with the Pb particle being in the solid and liquid state. & 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The formation of diastereomeric cocrystals of malic acid and tartaric acid was investigated by liquid-assisted grinding in the solid state. We demonstrate that racemic malic acid can be converted into two distinct diastereomeric cocrystal phases by grinding with a single enantiomer of tartaric acid.
