In a case of a neglected radial neck fracture in childhood, the management of initial fracture and its complications are subjected to discussion. In children, open reduction should be avoided but an angulation less than 30° must be obtained. Several techniques exist to manage symptomatic malunion in adults, including resection, prosthesis, and osteotomy. When performing an osteotomy, it is impo...
Case studies using 3D technologies for corrective osteotomies : synergy between engineer and surgeon
Three-dimensional (3D) visualization, surgical pre-planning, and 3D printing or additive manufacturing of patient specific instruments and implants are fast gaining attention in the medical world. Already widely used in cranio-maxillofacial, dental, and total knee replacement surgery, 3D technologies are now starting to create a trend in the upper limb region too. A crucial step in establishing...
Nissen (1966) has recorded the morbid anatomy ofthe hipjoint in a case of osteoarthritis with partial loss of the superior joint space successfully treated by high femoral osteotomy ten months previously. Meachim and Osborne (1970) have described five femoral heads after ineffective operation. There are no doubt differing opinions on how to define a successful osteotomy and by what criteria to ...
STUDY DESIGN This study is a prospective, clinical study for lumbar degenerative kyphosis. PURPOSE To determine the factors affecting postoperative clinical outcomes in patients who undergo corrective osteotomy for lumbar degenerative kyphosis. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE Only a small number of studies have reported clinical results for surgery for lumbar degenerative kyphosis. There are almost ...
ased on the finite element method, effect of porous osteotomy block biomechanics surrounding joints in treatment flat foot by Evans is studied. The method used to simulate for correct flatfoot. force line analyzed from biomechanical point view. blocks were divided into solid and blocks, normal as control groups. results show that can effectively improve foot. Compared with block, also play a co...
According to AO classification, 33-C3 (complete articular multifragmentary) fracture of distal femur is characterized by complex articular involvement, along with short distal femoral block with multiple small fragments and usually with severe soft tissue abruption. In such cases of complex articular fracture of distal femur with extensive comminution of the femur condyle that is often seen in ...
Hallux valgus is one of the commonest conditions of the foot and has been reported to affect nearly half of the adult population. It is most effectively treated by a corrective osteotomy of which there a numerous subtypes. The Mau osteotomy confers the greatest structural stability but is not thought to provide adequate correction of moderate-severe deformities. Accordingly, complications such ...
OBJECTIVE This study was undertaken to determine clinical outcome after medial opening wedge osteotomy with Tlocking plate, with two- year follow up. Twenty-two patients (22 knees) who underwent medial opening wedge osteotomy with T-locking plate (stainless steel 316L, 6 holes) for treatment of varus malalignment of the leg between March 2005 and April 2008 were included in the study. The amoun...
We report the results of supramalleolar varus osteotomy on seven ankles (in six patients) for haemophilic arthropathy and secondary valgus deformity. The operation reduced pain and the frequency of intra-articular bleeding while preserving joint function for a mean of nine years. The procedure is an attractive alternative to the more commonly used surgical option of arthrodesis.
