We hereby report a child with transposition of great arteries and regressed ventricle who underwent arterial switch operation (ASO) with the aid of cardiopulmonary bypass and "integrated" extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) circuit. The significance of lactate clearance as a guide to initiate and terminate veno-arterial ECMO in a post ASO child with regressed left ventricle is discussed.
Peripheral arterial disease represents a significant problem, particularly among the elderly population. There has been great progress made in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease in recent years. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has been employed as a method of treatment for patients with a variety of peripheral arterial disease. We report our experience with PTA of contrala...
A 42-year old man with previous history of lipoma excised from the left wrist with recurrence underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using complete arterial revascularization. Left radial artery (non dominant hand) was successfully harvested using endoscopic technique completely avoiding the scar and the lipoma in the patient’s forearm, allowing complete arterial revascularization to ...
We discuss revascularization techniques for complex skull base lesions utilizing high-flow arterial bypass. At present, the radial artery is the donor graft utilized in most circumstances at our institution. The knowledge of revascularization techniques is very important to achieve radical resection in lesions where arterial compromise is documented.
arterial sclerosis has been extensively described but reports on venous sclerosis are very sparse. phlebosclerosis refers to the thickening and hardening of the venous wall. despite its morphological similarities with arteriosclerosis and potential morbid consequences, phlebosclerosis has gained only little attention. we report a 72 year old male with paralysis and atrophy of the right leg due ...
Neurological symptoms in hypertensive subjects may be a reflection of intracranial vascular disease and not just a consequence of hypertension. Two hypertensive children with renovascular disease, neurological symptoms, and severe cerebral arterial disease were treated by extracranial-intracranial arterial bypass surgery with improvement of symptoms and easier control of blood pressure. Where r...
This report describes a rare asymptomatic case of complete stent fracture, coronary arterial transection, and pseudoaneurysm formation in response to repeated stenting. The proximal and distal ends of transected coronary artery were closed, and distal bypass was performed. Coronary arterial transection can occur in patients with repeated stenting as a long-term adverse event.
