We report a case of Streptobacillus moniliformis spondylodiscitis accompanied by a psoas abscess in an 80-year-old man scratched by a rooster. S. moniliformis was identified from abscess fluid by use of 16S rRNA gene sequencing. After 18 weeks of antimicrobial therapy, the clinical condition of the patient improved.
Differences between light reflectance from leaves of cotton (Gossypiurn hirsutum) plants grown with a low- or no-nematode (Rotylenchulus reniformis) population (nonstressed), and from leaves grown with a high nematode population (stressed) were measured in field and greenhouse experiments. Reflectance was measured spectrophotometrically in the laboratory on single leaves and spectroradiometrica...
The study investigated the phytochemical and in-vitro antioxidants potential of Aristolochia bracteolata root extracts. Qualitative quantitative analysis plant extract fractions were carried out. total antioxidant free radical scavenging activity measured by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl, FRAP TBARS methods. Results obtained showed that saponins (10.10 ± 0.05d) as well found to be significant...
In this communication, we report the springtime variation of the composition of aristolochic acids (AAs) in Aristolochia chilensis leaves and stems. The dominant AA in the leaves of all samples, which were collected between October and December, was AA-I (1), and its concentration varied between 212.6±3.8 and 145.6±1.2 mg/kg and decreased linearly. This decrease occurred in parallel with the in...
The appearance of new antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a societal problem that requires the development of new alternative treatments. Therefore, this work evaluated the antibacterial activity of ethanolic (EHI), dichloromethanic (EDI) and hexanic (EHE) extracts from Aristolochia cymbifera stems and the combination of these extracts with an antimicrobial drug to develop a new antibacterial ther...
BACKGROUND Renal failure after ingestion of Chinese herbs between 1990 and 1992 was related to the replacement of Stephania tetrandra by Aristolochia fangchi (ST-AF), containing nephrotoxic and carcinogenic aristolochic acids. However, the relationship between ST-AF and renal failure is still a matter of debate. We therefore tested the impact of the ST-AF ingested dose on the progression of ren...
