Tellurium nanostructures have been prepared by physical vapor deposition method in a tube furnace. The experiments were carried out under argon gas flow at a pressure of 1 mbar. Tellurium powder was evaporated by heating at 350°C and 430°C and was condensed on substrates at 110–250°C, in the downstream of argon gas flow. The products were characterized by field emission scanning electron micros...

Large Area Avalanche Photodiodes (LAAPDs) were used for a series of systematic measurements of the scintillation light in Ar, Kr, and Xe gas. Absolute quantum efficiencies are derived. Values for Xe and Kr are consistent with those given by the manufacturer. For the first time we show that argon scintillation (128 nm) can be detected at a quantum efficiency above 40%. Low-pressure argon gas is ...

We report the results of (N,ρ,T) Molecular-Dynamics computer simulations of krypton-argon mixtures physisorbed between two graphite sheets. Three novel aspects of the system's behavior emerge from this study. To begin with, new high-temperature commensurate solid phases for both argon and krypton as a result of confinement are predicted, as well as a family of confinement-induced solid-liquid p...

A. ELECTRON DENSITY MEASUREMENTS IN CONTINUOUS ARGON ION LASERS We are continuing our studies of the electron density in argon ion laser discharges. Several improvements have been made in our diagnostic equipment since our last report. l We present some preliminary results of measurements performed on continuous argon discharges. 1. Steady-State Discharge Measurements Figure VII-1 is a block di...

The enthalpy and entropy of vacancy creation in solid argon are re-evaluated using the two-body force approximation. At the triple point, the resulting vacancy free energy is g, = 1900 -4.0 RTcaljmole vat. This does not agree well with previous calculations of g,, but agrees well with experimental values of g, obtained from the argon specific heat”’ C, (but not with the questionable values obta...

Polystyrene nanoring arrays with outer diameters ranging from 130 to 230 nm were fabricated using low cost and simple fabrication techniques, including nanosphere lithography, argon plasma treatment, immersion in organic solvents and sonication. These nanorings were developed from polystyrene nanospheres pre-assembled on substrates. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the argon plasma tr...

Molecular Dynamics simulations are carried out for investigating atomic processes of platinum sputtering. Sputtered Pt atom energy distribution functions (EDF) are determined at different sputtering argon ionenergies: 100, 500, and 1000 eV. Calculated EDF show a cross-over from Thompson theory to binary collision model when increasing argon ion energy and Pt atom sputtered energy. Implanted arg...
