Aorto-esophageal fistula is often a terminal event in many patients. The commonest causes are thoracic aortic aneurysm and esophageal malignancy. To achieve a good outcome in this condition, a MDT approach is required that combines the expertize of vascular surgeons, radiologists, and emergency physicians.
A case of a 78-year-old female with bilateral groin prevascular herniae following an emergency aorto-uniiliac EVAR and femoro-femoral bypass for a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm is presented. Primary repair of the herniae was achieved using a preperitoneal approach. The case emphasises a safe approach to dealing with this rare complication.
A patient with severe deforming rheumatoid arthritis presented with a short history of chest pain. The clinical signs were of an unusual diastolic murmur and profound shock unresponsive to therapy. Post-mortem examination disclosed the unexpected finding of a large aorto-atrial fistula.
BACKGROUND The intraluminal size of the aorto-iliac segment is relevant in both the clinical and echographic settings. The aim of this study was to compile both the absolute and relative age-specific reference intervals for cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of the aorto-iliac segment. MATERIAL/METHODS Using the methods of anatomical dissection, digital-image analysis (Leica QWin Pro 16) and statis...
A case of a young Japanese woman with long-standing ulcerative colitis complicated by preinfarction angina due to Takayasu's aortitis is presented. Successful emergency aorto-coronary bypass operation was performed. Whether the association of these two diseases can be explained by a common mechanism is discussed.
Objectives: To investigate the relationship between foetal haemodynamics and postnatal clinical presentation in patients with transposition of the great arteries using phase-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance. Background:A severe and irreversible form of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn occurs in up to 5% of patients with transposition and remains an important cause of m...
INTRODUCTION About 20-30% of the population have peripheral artery disease. Many of them require intervention, with a percutaneous procedure currently being the first choice. However, the outcomes of these interventions need regular evaluation due to continuous progress in endovascular techniques and the devices used. AIM The aim of this study was to analyze procedural factors influencing the...

An 11-year-old boy with mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, who later developed an acute anteroseptal infarction and unstable angina, is presented. Anginal attacks were shown by 24-hour long-term ambulatory electrocardiographic recording. He was shown to have multiple coronary aneurysms with thrombi, and underwent a successful aorto-coronary bypass.
We report on a 65-year-old woman with typical clinicopathologic features of eosinophilic fasciitis (Shulman syndrome) who suffered from lower limb ischemia and abdominal aorta aneurysm. Physical examination, laboratory data and histopathologic findings confirmed the diagnosis of eosinophilic fasciitis. The patient underwent aorto-bifemoral vascular prosthesis implantation. Tissue reactions asso...
