Integrated management is a central theme of Australia’s Oceans Policy (AOP). Improving integration across sectors and jurisdictions has been identified in a number of Australian initiatives in coastal and marine policy developed in the past decade. These initiatives include the Regional Marine Planning process under AOP undertaken in 2000–02 and commitments to a National Coastal Policy made in ...

Pointcuts are currently defined in most aspect-oriented frameworks either by way of laborious enumeration or by referring to some structural property of the code. This coarse way of quantifying reduces program evolvability, supposedly one of the advantages of AOP. We believe that a strong decoupling of concerns will only be achieved when pointcut definition mechanisms are provided that rely on ...

Aspect-oriented programming promises support for incremental program development by providing new means for modularization of crosscutting code. In this paper, we briefly introduce a general model for aspect-oriented programming, Event-Based AOP (first introduced in [DMS01a]), which is based on monitoring of execution events. This model extends previous approaches by enabling the systematic tre...

I return to the question of what distinguishes AOP languages by considering how the interpreters of AOP languages differ from conventional interpreters. Key elements for static transformation are seen to be redefinition of the set and lookup operators in the interpretation of the language. This analysis also yields a definition of crosscutting in terms of interlacing of interpreter actions.

UNLABELLED Cannabis use is associated with an earlier age of onset of psychosis (AOP). However, the reasons for this remain debated. METHODS We applied a Cox proportional hazards model to 410 first-episode psychosis patients to investigate the association between gender, patterns of cannabis use, and AOP. RESULTS Patients with a history of cannabis use presented with their first episode of ...

When composing components that have been independently developed, coordinated pre-planning to ensure interoperability is not always an option. Without pre-planning, mismatches in architectures, interfaces, or protocols tend to occur that prevent the composition of components. To enable the composition of mismatched components, components must be permitted to possess inconsistent world views on ...

In this position paper, we argue that traditional object-oriented design patterns can be regarded as workarounds for limitations in current programming languages, including crosscutting concerns. Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) is able to modularise crosscutting concerns and overcomes many of the limitations. To illustrate, we mention a few examples. We describe several situations in which pa...

This paper shows how components and aspects can be seamlessly integrated using protocols. A simple component model equipped with protocols is extended with aspect components. The protocol of an aspect component observes the service requests and replies of plain components, and possibly internal component actions, and react to these actions (possibly preventing some base actions to happen as is ...

The optimization of hydrodynamic cavitation as an AOP requires identifying the key parameters and studying their effects on the process. Specific simulations of hydrodynamic bubbles reveal that time scales play a major role on the process. Rarefaction/compression periods generate a number of opposing effects which have demonstrated to be quantitatively different from those found in ultrasonic c...

Unless explicitly prevented, aspects can apply to themselves and can therefore change their own behaviour. This self-adaptation can lead to syntactically correct programs that express antinomies, i.e., that are meaningless (have no intuitive semantics). Drawing the parallel to mathematical logic, we suggest adopting the classical solution presented by Russell and Tarski, i.e., the separation of...
