Azatitanacyclopropanes (titanaziridines) are shown to be stereochemically labile under reaction conditions for reductive cross-coupling. This fundamental property has been employed to realize highly selective asymmetric coupling reactions with allylic alcohols that proceed by dynamic kinetic resolution.
background: in iran, methyl alcohol poisoning rarely occurs accidentally and usually occurs through abuse of contaminated ethanol. however, with proper and timely treatment complications and mortality of methanol poisoning can be prevented. in this study, the epidemiological profile of methanol poisoning in the iranian society was investigated. methods: in this prospective cross-sectional study...
conclusions we conclude that oral cancer is etiologically related to the interaction between smoking and drinking. results the smoking as well as alcohol drinking rates in the subjects of the case group were significantly higher than the controls. of smoking types, bidi (a hand rolled cigarette) (or = 4.1, 95% ci = 2.4-6.9), and among alcohol types, hard liquor (or = 2.6, 95% ci = 1. 4-6.4), cou...
Short-chain alcohols inhibited the equilibrium binding of agonists and antagonists to rat heart muscarinic receptors. Methanol, ethanol, propan-2-ol and propan-1-ol, when used at low concentrations, behaved as pseudo-competitive antagonists. Their rank order of potency paralleled their relative partition coefficients, suggesting that this inhibition was simply due to the interaction of the alco...
The human liver alpha alpha alcohol dehydrogenase exhibits a different substrate specificity and stereospecificity for secondary alcohols than the human beta 1 beta 1, and gamma 1 gamma 1 or horse liver alcohol dehydrogenases. All of the enzymes efficiently oxidize primary alcohols, but alpha alpha oxidizes secondary alcohols far more efficiently than human beta 1 beta 1 and gamma 1 gamma 1 or ...
Trimethylsilylation of a variety of alcohols and phenols, in the presence of silica chloride, using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) in solution and under solvent-free conditions is reported. Trimethylsilyl ethers were formed in excellent yields both for aliphatic alcohols and phenols without having an electron-withdrawing group. In addition, SiO2-Cl can be recovered and reused after drying.
The effect of alcohols on cell membrane proteins has originally been assumed to be mediated by their primary action on membrane lipid matrix. Many studies carried out later on both animal and yeast cells have revealed that ethanol and other alcohols inhibit the functions of various membrane channels, receptors and solute transport proteins, and a direct interaction of alcohols with these membra...
A difference was observed in the reactivity of alcohols and ethers toward free electrons. Whereas the lowest core-excited state of the negative ion-a 2(n,3s2) Feshbach resonance-of the alcohols readily dissociates by losing a hydrogen atom, ethers show no observable signal from this resonance. This difference in reactivity has a parallel in the anomalous shapes and energies of the parent states...
The dopaminergic neurons of the ventral tegmental area (DA VTA neurons) have been implicated in the reinforcing properties of drugs of abuse, including ethanol (ethyl alcohol). Ethanol increases the spontaneous firing frequency of DA VTA neurons in vitro, in both brain slices and acutely dissociated neurons, and also in vivo. In many systems, longer n-alkyl alcohols have a more potent effect th...
This thesis describes methods to obtain value–added compounds from TMPturpentine obtained from the spruce, Picea abies. The methodology focuses on biotransformations using two approaches: an oxygenation approach (i.e. oxygenation of terpene hydrocarbons by cell cultures) and an esterification approach (i.e. lipase-catalysed transesterification of vinyl acetate with terpene alcohols, and a furth...
