Forty-eight clinical Acinetobacter isolates with different epidemic behavior were investigated for the presence of integrons and plasmids and for antibiotic susceptibility. Integrons were demonstrated in 50% of the strains by an integrase gene PCR. Epidemic strains of Acinetobacter baumannii were found to contain significantly more integrons than nonepidemic strains. Also, the presence of integ...

The Cr(VI) removal capability of Acinetobacter junii VITSUKMW2 isolated from the Sukinda chromite mine site was evaluated and enhanced using statistical design techniques. The removal capacity was evaluated at different pH values (5-11) and temperatures (30-40 degrees C) and with various carbon and nitrogen sources. Plackett- Burman design was used to select the operational parameters for biore...

Let X/K be an absolutely simple abelian variety over a number field; we study whether the reductions Xp tend to be simple, too. We show that if End(X) is a definite quaternion algebra, then the reduction Xp is geometrically isogenous to the self-product of an absolutely simple abelian variety for p in a set of positive density, while if X is of Mumford type, then Xp is simple for almost all p. ...

Acinetobacter baumannii is an emerging human pathogen causing nosocomial and community-acquired infections. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of the clinical A. baumannii strain R2090 carrying the metallo-β-lactamase gene blaNDM-1 in its chromosome within the transposon Tn125.

The tet(M) gene encodes a protein which is related to tetracycline ribosomal protection, one of the mechanisms of tetracycline resistance. A tet(M) gene that is 100% homologous to the tet(M) gene of Staphylococcus aureus has been found in a clinical isolate of Acinetobacter baumannii, which also carries the tet(A) gene encoding a tetracycline efflux pump.

The draft genome sequences of the strains Acinetobacter baumannii 107m, Acinetobacter nosocomialis 28F, and Acinetobacter pittii 42F, isolated from Colombian hospitals, are reported here. These isolates are causative of nosocomial infections and are classified as multidrug resistant, as they showed resistance to four different antibiotic groups.

We report here the draft genome sequence of a carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strain isolated from a patient, a strain which previously stayed in Serbia. This isolate possessed the blaOXA-72 carbapenemase gene. The draft genome sequence consists of a total length of 3.91 Mbp, with an average G+C content of 38.8%.

A membrane filter method was developed and evaluated for the quantitative recovery of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus from environmental waters. The procedure utilized a mineral medium, with sodium acetate and potassium nitrate as the carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. Formic acid was included to enhance the recovery of A. calcoaceticus and to inhibit background growth. The medium was incub...
