Daily Evapo-Transpiration (ET) was spatialized over a Mediterranean vineyard watershed by using ASTER data along with the S-SEBI model. Validation over seven contrasted sites was performed using an original procedure that allowed easier multi-site monitoring without being much expensive. It made use of neutron probe data for calibrating the HYDRUS-1D model that simulates vadoze zone water trans...

One-dimensional sliding along DNA as a means to accelerate protein target search is a well-known phenomenon occurring in various biological systems. Using a biomimetic approach, we have recently demonstrated the practical use of DNA-sliding peptides to speed up bimolecular reactions more than an order of magnitude by allowing the reactants to associate not only in the solution by three-dimensio...

Paper presents an 1D model for the heat transfer in a limited but significant region of an actuator–sensor structure for the determination of fluid and flow characteristics. As an essential step for the design of this structure, the usefulness of the model in the framework of the structure’s functionality is underlined. In the first part of the work, the main heat transfer mechanisms are detail...

FAR-TECH, Inc. is developing a hybrid, quasi-three dimensional (Quasi-3D) model to simulate charge breeding of a test 1+ or 2+ ion beam in an electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS). The model is a combination of three dimensional (3D) mapping of the plasma background calculated by a 1D Generalised ECRIS Model (GEM-1D) [1] and 3D tracking of the ion trajectories with Monte Carlo Charge ...

We show that in the one-dimensional (1D) Anderson model long-range correlations within the sequence of on-site potentials may lead to a region of extended states in the vicinity of the band centre, i.e., to a correlation-induced insulator-metal transition. Thus, although still disordered, the 1D system can behave as a conductor.

The oriented non-guillotine two-dimensional strip packing problem is investigated. Several 1D relaxations are considered and compared. Moreover, an ILP formulation of the 1D contiguous relaxation is given. The appropriate combination of some of the relaxations enables us the formulate a new ILP model of the strip packing problem.

We introduce a one-dimensional (1D) XZ model with alternating σ i σ z i+1 and σ x i σ x i+1 interactions on even/odd bonds, interpolating between the Ising model and the quantum compass model. We present two ways of its exact solution by: (i) mapping to the quantum Ising models, and (ii) using fermions with spin 1/2. In certain cases the nearest neighbor pseudospin correlations change discontin...

We study consistency conditions on a M(atrix)-model which would describe M-theory on T . We argue that there is a limit in moduli space for which it becomes a 6+1D theory and study the low-energy description of extended objects in the decompactified limit. We discuss the requirements from a M(atrix)-model which would describe such an E6(6) theory and we suggest that a 1+1D theory with (0, 4) su...

Electronegative inductive discharges in higher pressure ranges typically exhibit strongly localized ionization near the coil structure, with decay of the electron temperature and ionization into the central discharge region. We use a two-dimensional (2D) fluid code with a chlorine feedstock gas to determine the spatial profiles of the particle densities and electron temperature in a cylindrical...
