حضور ترکیبات بیولوژیکی فعال مانند هیپریسین تنها به گونه های خاصی از جنس گل راعی، مانند hypericum perforatum اختصاص دارد. با توجه به سودمندی این ترکیبات در صنعت داروسازی و ناکارآمدی سنتز شیمیایی آنها، روش های تولید جایگزین مانند تولید در شرایط آزمایشگاهی توجهات زیادی را به خود جلب کرده است .
