There is an enormous inequity in global health as well as research. Less than 10% of research funds are spent on the diseases that account for 90% of the global disease burden. This case study of north-south, south-south collaborations in Sri Lanka is a classic example of the issues faced by mental health researchers in low and middle income countries (LMICs). In this paper, work carried out by...

Dissolution of diopside-bearing slag and its amorphous counterpart was investigated to decipher recovery potential these slags. The contribution direct phase dissolution using a biotic solution with Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans versus sterile growth medium, whereas citric acid applied demonstrate slags in organic medium. Potential metal donor phases easily released elements were identified by ...

Two studies were conducted to compare the availability of trace minerals offered to Brahman-crossbred heifers in either grain- or molasses-based supplements. Heifers were randomly assigned to bahiagrass pastures of equal size (n = 3 and 2 heifers/ pasture with 6 and 4 pastures/treatment for Experiment 1 and 2, respectively). Two supplements were formulated using corn and cottonseed meal (DRY) o...

in the present investigation, shells of pistachio are used as adsorbents and they have been successfully used for the removal of blue 56, from water samples. the effect of various parameters such as: ph, amounts of adsorbents, size of adsorbent particles and contact time on removal processing were investigated. in this study freundlich absorption isotherms and langmuir were investigated . the e...

We propose an aqueous rechargeable Zn-Cu Daniell-type battery. In this system, Li(+) prefers to conduct currents rather than react with the electrodes, while the Zn-Cu electrode couples engage in their electrochemical reactions free from conducting currents. Here Li(+) performs like a messenger and thus could be called the electrochemical messenger.

We discuss the structure of the effective Lagrangian for the (2,2) ZN orbifolds and the corresponding Calabi-Yau manifolds which are obtained by “blowing-up” the orbifold singularities. The method to “blow-up” such singularities is reviewed.’ Results are exact at the string tree-level. In particular the question of generating an intermediate scale MI in such models is addressed. It is shown tha...

Understanding Zn uptake dynamics is critical to rice grain Zn biofortification. Here we examined soil Zn availability and Zn uptake pathways as affected by genotype (high-grain Zn varieties IR69428 and IR68144), Zn fertilization and water management in two pot experiments. Results showed significant interactions (P < 0.05) between genotypes and Zn fertilization on DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentaa...

Zn deficiency is a widespread problem in rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown under flooded conditions, limiting growth and grain Zn accumulation. Genotypes with Zn deficiency tolerance or high grain Zn have been identified in breeding programmes, but little is known about the physiological mechanisms conferring these traits. A protocol was developed for growing rice to maturity in agar nutrient soluti...

Organic matter plays a key role in availability and transformation of soil Zn (zinc), which greatly controls Zn concentrations in cereal grains and human Zn nutrition level. Accordingly, soils homogenized with the wheat straw (0, 12 g straw kg-1) and Zn fertilizer (0, 7 mg Zn kg-1) were buried and incubated in the field over 210 days to explore the response of soil Zn availability and the agein...
