Failed transmission attempts lead to significant wastage of energy in sensor networks. CSMA attempts to address this issue by sensing the carrier before transmissions and by backing off in case of failed transmissions. However, in many scenarios packet losses are caused by interfering nodes, that are not directly contending with a given transmission. We propose a new technique to reduce such lo...

BACKGROUND A population-based phylogenetic approach was used to characterize human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-transmission dynamics in Quebec. METHODS HIV-1 pol sequences included primary HIV infections (PHIs; <6 months after seroconversion) from the Quebec PHI cohort (1998-2005; n=215) and the provincial genotyping program (2001-2005; n=481). Phylogenetic analysis determined sequence inter...

In order to mitigate high cochannel interference resulting from dense channel reuse, the interference management issues are often considered as essential part of scheduling schemes in fixed broadband wireless access (FBWA) networks. To that end, a series of literature has been published recently, in which a group of base stations forms an interferer group (downlink transmissions from each base ...

Observations are presented in which the standard dual-polarization meteorological quantities (ZDR, f dp, and rHV) are determined from simultaneous horizontal (H) and vertical (V) transmissions. The return signals are measured in parallel H and V receiving channels. Because the parameters are determined from simultaneous measurements they are not affected by Doppler phase shifts that increase th...

In this paper, we introduce new geometric ad-hoc routing algorithms to route queries in static sensor networks. For singlesource-queries routing, we utilise a centralised mechanism to accomplish a query using an asymptotically optimal number of transmissions O(c), where c is the length of the shortest path between the source and the destination. For multiple-source-queries routing, the number o...

We show a tight lower bound of Ω(N log logN) on the number of transmissions required to compute the parity of N input bits with constant error in a noisy communication network of N randomly placed sensors, each having one input bit and communicating with others using local transmissions with power near the connectivity threshold. This result settles the lower bound question left open by Ying, S...

Wireless ad hoc networks have been attracting more and more attentions in recent years from both academia and industry, because of their low deployment costs and broad applications. Due to the scarcity of the radio spectrum, supporting concurrent transmissions by exploiting the spatial frequency reuse gain is necessary to enhance spectrum utilization. On the other hand, cooperative communicatio...

IMPORTANCE Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission risk is primarily dependent on behavior (sexual and injection drug use) and HIV viral load. National goals emphasize maximizing coverage along the HIV care continuum, but the effect on HIV prevention is unknown. OBJECTIVES To estimate the rate and number of HIV transmissions attributable to persons at each of the following 5 HIV care ...

Using stochastic geometry tools, we develop a comprehensive framework to analyze the downlink performance of various types users (e.g., served by direct base station (BS) transmissions and indirect intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted transmissions) in cellular network with multiple BSs IRSs. For proposed users, provide approximate expressions for terms coverage probability, ergodic ca...

We experimentally demonstrate real-time C-band transmissions with up to 29 dB optical budget after 25 km propagation at 20 Gbit/s and 25 Gbit/s. Our solution uses pre-equalization and electro-optical components dedicaded for 10 Gbit/s transmissions.
