abstract spinal cord injury (sci) is a devastating condition producing great personal and societal costs and for which there is no effective treatment. stem cell transplantation is a promising therapeutic strategy, though much preclinical and clinical research work remains. here, we briefly describe sci epidemiology, pathophysiology, and transplantation trial in human developments, including te...
abstract lexical knowledge of complex english words is an important part of language skills and crucial for fluent language use (nation, 2001). the present study, thus, was an attempt to assess the role of morphological decomposition awareness as a vocabulary learning strategy on learners’ productive and receptive recall and recognition of complex english words. so 90 sophomores (female and ma...
We describe the system used in our submission to the WMT-2009 French-English translation task. We use the Moses phrasebased Statistical Machine Translation system with two simple modications of the decoding input and word-alignment strategy based on morphology, and analyze their impact on translation quality.
Production of parallel training corpora for the development of statistical machine translation (SMT) systems for resource-poor languages usually requires extensive manual effort. Active sample selection aims to reduce the labor, time, and expense incurred in producing such resources, attaining a given performance benchmark with the smallest possible training corpus by choosing informative, nonr...
Circus is a combination of Z and CSP that supports the development of state-rich reactive systems based on refinement. In this paper we present JCircus, a tool that automatically translates Circus programs into Java, for the purpose of animation and simulation. It is based on a translation strategy that uses the JCSP library to implement some of the CSP constructs of Circus. The tool generates ...
Synthetic posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression is important for understanding fundamental biology and programming new cellular processes in synthetic biology. Previous strategies for regulating translation in eukaryotes have focused on disrupting individual steps in translation, including initiation and mRNA cleavage. In emphasizing modularity and cross-organism functionality, thes...
MultiWord Expressions (MWEs) repesent a key issue for numerous applications in Natural Language Processing (NLP) especially for Machine Translation (MT). In this paper, we describe a strategy for detecting translation pairs of MWEs in a French-English parallel corpus. In addition we introduce three methods aiming to integrate extracted bilingual MWES in MOSES, a phrase based Statistical Machine...
1-introduction languages employ different strategies to represent motion as one of the basic human cognitive abilities. in talmy's typological dichotomy (1991; 2000b) languages are of two types according to the way they represent path either in verb roots or in satellites, accordingly languages are either verb framed or satellite framed. slobin (1991;1996 a,b.1997;2000) performed corpus based a...
Dolenec, Z.: Correlations between egg characteristics and laying order in the starling (Sturnus vulgaris) in NW Croatia. Nat. Croat., Vol. 10, No. 1., 11–17, 2001, Zagreb. This article analyses the effect of body weight and wing length of female starlings on clutch size as well as the effect of laying order on egg size. Egg length averaged 29.43 mm, egg breadth 21.32 mm, egg volume 6829 mm3, eg...
Translation is a process that is foiled by many constraints at different levels and various stages. These constraints affect the perceived and desired quality of translation and dictate the choices and decisions the translator makes. The ultimate goal of any translation strategy is to manage and remove these constraints. Understanding how these constraints work within the translation system and...
