Efficient lanthanide (Ln) luminescent probes require good ligand-to-metal energy transfer and high aqueous stability. A family of ligands based on 2-hydroxyisophthalamide chelating units is reported. These form highly stable, eight-coordinate Ln complexes. Several of these (Ln = Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy) emit in the visible region with good ligand-to-lanthanide energy transfer. The absolute quantum yield...

We report the synthesis and properties of eight new tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives containing two different functionalities, prepared with the aim of obtaining stable organic materials. The four acetoxyphenyl- and four hydroxyphenyl TTFs were synthesized via Wittig-type condensations. The electrochemical properties of these redox-active molecules were studied by cyclic voltammetry. Charge...

The study of charge transfer (CT) complexes of chloranil with drugs (Naproxen, Nerolin, Methyl anthranilate, Isoxsuprine and Nylidrin) showed that there is a significant interaction between the acceptor and donors as evidenced by colour changes and absorption spectra. From the position of CT bands, the ionization potentials (IPs) of donors were evaluated using appropriate equations. The donor’s...

We report here the first gold-catalyzed nitrene transfer reaction. A gold(I) compound, supported by 4,4',4' '-tri-tert-butyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine (tBu3tpy) as the ligand, efficiently catalyzes olefin aziridination with the use of the commercially available oxidant PhI(OAc)2 and sulfonamides. This system also mediates carbene insertion into benzene.

Metal-dioxygen adducts are key intermediates detected in the catalytic cycles of dioxygen activation by metalloenzymes and biomimetic compounds. In this study, mononuclear cobalt(III)-peroxo complexes bearing tetraazamacrocyclic ligands, [Co(12-TMC)(O(2))](+) and [Co(13-TMC)(O(2))](+), were synthesized by reacting [Co(12-TMC)(CH(3)CN)](2+) and [Co(13-TMC)(CH(3)CN)](2+), respectively, with H(2)O...

Fluorescence resonance energy transfer in complexes of semiconductor CdSe/ZnS quantum dots with molecules of heterocyclic azo dyes, 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol and 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol, formed at high quantum dot concentration in the polymer pore track membranes were studied by steady-state and transient PL spectroscopy. The effect of interaction between the complexes and free quantum do...

The eŠect of rigor (formation of actomyosin complexes) on magnetization transfer was observed with a 1.5T clinical magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system. The magnetization transfer ratio of chemically skinned (calcium-sensitive) muscle ˆber preparations increased much more in a rigor state than in a relaxed state, while that of calcium-insensitive ˆber preparations and solutions showed no diŠe...
