the behavior of nanoscale energetic materials is quite different from micronsized energetic materials inmany ways. recently, some techniques such as sol-gel method, high speed air impaction and vacuum codeposition have been employed to obtain nanoscale energetic materials. however, only few attentionswere paid to nanoscale energetic materials because of the fabrication difficulty. in this paper...

BACKGROUND Respiratory distress syndrome and chronic lung disease are prevalent disorders in extremely low-birth-weight infants. Evidence demonstrates that timely surfactant administration improves respiratory outcomes. OBJECTIVE To assess whether basic quality-improvement methods can reduce the time to initial surfactant dose for premature infants. DESIGN/METHODS The study was conducted in...

INTRODUCTION Previous randomized trials failed to demonstrate a decrease in mortality of patients with acute lung injury treated by exogenous surfactant. The aim of this prospective randomized study was to evaluate the effects of exogenous porcine-derived surfactant on pulmonary reaeration and lung tissue in patients with acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS). M...

Pulmonary surfactant is essential for maintaining lung function. In the present study we attempted to gain insight into the mechanisms underlying changes in surfactant in old age. We examined the ultrastructure of surfactant-producing lamellar bodies of the alveolar epithelial cells and of extracellular tubular myelin unfolding from the lamellar bodies in the lungs of two contrasting age-groups...

In this study, we investigate the steady propagation of a liquid plug in a two-dimensional channel lined by a uniform, thin liquid film. The liquid contains soluble surfactant that can exist both in the bulk fluid and on the air-liquid interface. The Navier-Stokes equations with free-surface boundary conditions and the surfactant transport equations are solved using a finite volume numerical sc...

Lubrication equations for a surfactant-driven flow of a thin layer of fluid are considered with a singular surfactant-dependent surface tension. It is shown that there exists a bounded traveling wave solution which connects a fully surfactant-coated film to an uncoated film. The regularity of the traveling wave depends on whether or not surface diffusion of the insoluble surfactant is included.

Human pulmonary surfactant has not been shown to have immunoregulatory properties. A study was designed to examine the effect of whole surfactant (lyophilised bronchoalveolar lavage fluid) and purified surfactant lipids obtained from normal lungs of three species (man, pig, rabbit) on the lymphoproliferative responses of human peripheral blood lymphocytes to mitogens and alloantigens. Whole sur...

In this research, effect of bicomponent mixed surfactant was studied on drop interface coalescence phenomenon in ambient temperature. First basic chemical system was water and toluene and 0.01 gr of sodium dodecyle sulfate (SDS) and the second basic system was water and toluene and 0.01 gr of cethyl trimethy amonium bromide (CTAB). Various weight fractions of second surfactant including 2-hepta...

Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) is a widely accepted technique of non-invasive respiratory support in spontaneously-breathing premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Surfactant administration techniques compatible with nCPAP ventilation strategy are actively investigated. Our aim is to set up and validate a respiratory distress animal model that can be mana...
