We describe three patients who developed gross calcaneus deformity following surgery for talipes equinovarus. One also had an associated valgus deformity and another had supination of the forefoot; all had intractable problems with footwear. Operation for transfer of the tibialis anterior to the heel, with correction of the associated deformities, was successful and improved both their gait and...

The authors report this case of a 48-year-old male patient sustaining a complete tear of the biceps tendon and associated radial head subluxation. A restriction of supination-pronation of the forearm was noted as a result of the radial head subluxation. The complete tear of the biceps tendon was treated conservatively and the radial head subluxation corrected itself.

Congenital deficiency of part of distal ulna affecting the distal radio-ulnar joint is a rare disorder. It is even rarer to find the association of proximal radio-ulnar joint dislocation along with distal ulnar deficiency. This type of congenital forearm anomaly is difficult to treat. Conversion to a single bone forearm in the expense of pronation-supination movement is a viable option. By doin...

In order to obtain a good understanding of the coordination of the motor system several problems have to be solved. Two major issues are: (1) that muscles do not form an orthogonal coordinate system, and (2) that the number of muscles that may contribute to a movement in general exceeds the number of degrees of freedom of the movement. The latter allows the movement to be executed by an infinit...

BACKGROUND Non-invasive imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provide the ability to evaluate the complex anatomy of bone and soft tissues of the wrist without the use of ionizing radiation. Dynamic instability of wrist--occurring during joint motion--is a complex condition that has assumed increased importance in musculoskeletal medicine. The objective of this study was t...

1 T incidence of secondary lymphedema in breast cancer patients, undergoing axillary node dissection or postmastectomy irradiation, is increasing up to 30%, despite the improvement in diagnosis and treatment.1 Once lymphedema occurs, they are being treated by general surgeons and plastic surgeons. Ninety percent of patients with lymphedema respond to conservative treatment and do not need surge...

INTRODUCTION Dislocation of the radial head, congenital or traumatic, anteriorly, posteriorly or laterally displaced, requires surgery to reseat and stabilize the head of the radius within the joint, in order to restore elbow flexion and, as much as possible, pronation-supination. SCOPE This article is meant to present the technique of proximal radial-ulnar ligament plasty using the extensor ...

BACKGROUND Forceful activities of the wrist were considered to be a risk factor for the epicondylitis. However, there are still conflicting evidence concerning work-relatedness of epicondylitis. The main problem is that there is little information about which forearm postures are capable of withstanding higher torque loads and the extent of the differences in the torques generated by different ...
