The notion of controllability, informally the ability to force a system into a desired state in a finite time or number of steps, is most closely associated with control systems such as those used to maintain power networks and other critical infrastructures, but has wider relevance in distributed systems. It is clearly highly desirable to understand under which conditions attackers may be able...
Generic results regarding the structural properties of LTI singular system are presented in this paper. These include the structure of the system poles (both finite and infinite), assignment of the finite poles, elimination of the impulse mode, and controllability and observability of the closed-loop system. These properties are characterized by some new concepts defined in this paper.
In this paper we extend some basic results on the controllability and observability of linear discrete-time fractional-order systems. For both of these fundamental structural properties we establish some new concepts inherent to fractional-order systems and we develop new analytical methods for checking these properties. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.
In this paper we study systems in which the system operator, A, has a Riesz basis of (generalized) eigenvectors. We show that this class is subset of the class of spectral operators as studied by Dunford and Schwartz. For these systems we investigate several system theoretic properties, like stability and controllability. We apply our theory to Euler-Bernoulli beam with structural damping.
This article determines and characterizes the minimal number of actuators needed to ensure structural controllability of a linear system under structural alterations that can severe the connection between any two states. We assume that initially the system is structurally controllable with respect to a given set of controls, and propose an efficient system-synthesis mechanism to find the minima...
Actuator placement is an active field of research, which has received significant attention for its applications in complex dynamical networks. In this article, we study the problem finding a set actuator placements minimizing metric that measures average energy consumed state transfer by controller, while satisfying structural controllability requirement and cardinality constraint on number ac...
Automatic restoration of control wireless networks based on dynamic cyberphysical systems has become a hot topic in recent years, since most of their elements tend to have serious vulnerabilities that may be exploited by attackers. In fact, any exploitation may rapidly extend to the entire control network due to its problem of non-locality, where control properties of a system and its structura...
