The paper shows how the diffusive movement of ions through a channel protein can be described as a chemical reaction over an arbitrary shaped potential barrier. The result is simple and intuitive but without approximation beyond the electrodiffusion description of ion movement.

In a laterally asymmetric intake pumping station, the flow direction in forebay is not consistent with channel. Thus, adverse patterns, such as bias flow, large-scale vortex and occur frequently sump. Based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation RNG k-ε turbulence model, recent pattern station was numerically simulated analyzed, effective elimination measures were proposed. For orig...

The study?s main objective is to assess a channel heat exchanger?s thermal and hydraulic characteristics in the presence of turbulent air-flow at fixed Reynolds number. Using two distinct versions obstacles terms their shape, fix?ation, arrangement, baffles fins are implanted inside channel. To convert conventional flow path into wave-shaped one, first model contains rectangular alternately dis...

Aeromonas hydrophila is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped, mesophilic bacterium that infects both aquatic poikilothermic animals and mammals, including humans. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of Aeromonas hydrophila strain ML09-119, which represents a clonal group of A. hydrophila isolates causing outbreaks of bacterial septicemia in channel catfish since 2009.

The fossil record is the only source of information on the long-term dynamics of species assemblages. Here we assess the degree of ecological stability of the epifaunal pterioid bivalve assemblage (EPBA), which is part of the Middle Devonian Hamilton fauna of New York--the type example of the pattern of coordinated stasis, in which long intervals of faunal persistence are terminated by turnover...

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) was done for the first time in Belgium in 1993. Gastric torsion after band slippage is extremely rare. Literature review of gastric banding and complications in pregnancy did not reveal any case of gastric torsion. Hence, we report this rare case of gastric torsion in a pregnant lady following gastric banding.

The motion of internal layers for three singularly perturbed reaction diiusion problems, including the Allen-Cahn equation, is studied in a two-dimensional dumbell-shaped domain. The channel region that connects the two attachments, or lobes, of the dumbell is taken to be rectangular. The motion of straight-line internal layers in the channel region is analyzed using an asymptotic projection me...

Multi-h CPM has been selected as the Tier II waveform for the Advanced Range Telemetry (ARTM) program, because it offers 50% better spectral efficiency than Feher-patented FQPSK, which is the Tier I waveform. Shaped Offset QPSK has been shown to be nearly identical in performance to Feher-patented FQPSK. Both the Tier I and Tier II waveforms must operate in the presence of adjacent channel inte...

With the increased need for low power applications, designers are being forced to employ circuit optimization methods that make tradeoffs between performance and power. In this paper, we propose a novel transistor-level optimization method. Instead of drawing the transistor channel as a perfect rectangle, this method involves reshaping the channel to create an optimized device that is superior ...

The capillary rise of liquid in asymmetric channel junctions with branches of different radii can lead to long-lasting meniscus arrests in the wider channel, which has important implications for the morphology and dynamical broadening of imbibition fronts in porous materials with elongated pores. Using a microfluidic setup, we experimentally demonstrate the existence of arrest events in Y-shape...
