We present a shape classification technique for structural content–based retrieval of two-dimensional vector drawings. Our method has two distinguishing features. For one, it relies on explicit hierarchical descriptions of drawing structure by means of spatial relationships and shape characterization. However, unlike other approaches which attempt rigid shape classification, our method relies o...

This paper presents a novel approach to representing 2-d shapes that adaptively models different portions of the shape at different resolutions, having higher resolution where it improves the quality of the representation and lower resolution elsewhere. The proposed representation is invariant to scale, translation and rotation. The representation is amenable to indexing using existing multidim...

This paper describes a Bayesian graph matching algorithm for data-mining from large structural data-bases. The matching algorithm uses edge-consistency and node attribute similarity to determine the a posteriori probability of a query graph for each of the candidate matches in the data-base. The node feature-vectors are constructed by computing normalised histograms of pairwise geometric attrib...

Recent developments in techniques for modeling, digitizing and visualizing 3D shapes has led to an explosion in the number of available 3D models on the Internet and in domain-specific databases. Currently, large archives recording cultural heritage models like the David of Michelangelo [11], and the Minerva of Arezzo [7] are obtained by laser scanning projects. Also archives containing domain-...

We present a novel correspondence-based technique for efficient shape classification and retrieval. Shape boundaries are described by a set of (ad hoc) equally spaced points – avoiding the need to extract “landmark points”. By formulating the correspondence problem in terms of a simple generative model, we are able to efficiently compute matches that incorporate scale, translation, rotation and...

This paper gives an overview of shape dissimilarity measure properties, such as metric and robustness properties, and of retrieval performance measures. Fifteen shape similarity measures are shortly described and compared. Their retrieval results on the MPEG-7 Core Experiment CE-Shape-1 test set as reported in the literature and obtained by a reimplementation are compared and discussed.

An effective approach for 3D model retrieval is to represent models by a set of projection views . In this paper, we propose a flexible framework for view-based 3D model retrieval. The framework provides users the ability to configure three components: the number of views, the type of views, and the 2D shape descriptors used to distinguish views. Because the three components are closely related...
