The recent discovery and structure elucidation of approximately 100 new sesquiterpene lactones during a systematic study of Artemisia and other genera of the family of Compositae in our laboratory (16) have provided the opportunity for further investigations on the potential of these sesquiterpene lactones as new therapeutic agents. Much of the earlier study on sesquiterpene lactones for medici...
Column chromatographic separation of a MeOH extract of the aerial parts of Saussurea triangulata led to the isolation of a new sesquiterpene glycoside 6, together with three quinic acid derivatives, two phenolics, two sesquiterpene glycosides and two flavonoids. The new compound 6 was identified as amarantholidol A glycoside by spectroscopic and chemical methods.
* corresponding author, e-mail : [email protected] Abstract: A sesquiterpene lactone 1 Lacinin and a sesquiterpene lactone glucoside 2 Laciniside, were isolated from the flowers of Pulicaria laciniata. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods including 1D-( 1 H and 13 C) and 2D-NMR experiments, (CHcorr, HMBC, 1 H1 H COSY and NOESY) as well as high resolution E...
A new sesquiterpene aminoquinone, 5-epi-smenospongorine, together with nine known sesquiterpene quinone/phenols, was isolated as differentiation-inducing substances to K562 cells into erythroblast from the marine sponge Dactylospongia elegans. The structure-activity relationship study of these compounds clarified that the quinone skeleton is indispensable and the amino group plays an important ...
Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (APR) is a widely-used traditional Chinese medicine. Pharmacological studies have begun to probe its biological activities on neurological disorders recently. To assess the brain penetration and distribution of APR, a validated ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method was applied to the simultaneous determinations of the main coumarins ...
Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (APR), a widely used traditional Chinese medicine, is reported to have central nervous system activities. The purpose of this study was to characterize the blood-brain barrier permeability of twelve coumarins from APR including umbelliferone (1), osthol (2), scopoletin (3), peucedanol (4), ulopterol (5), angepubebisin (6), psoralen (7), xanthotoxin (8), bergapten (9)...
Plants from the genus Pterocaulon are popularly used as antifungal and wound-healing agents. Such activities have been related to coumarins, which are abundant in those plants. Coumarins are soluble in organic solvents, such as hexane and dichloromethane, and some of them are also soluble in hot water. Considering that infusion and decoctions of these plants are used in traditional medicine, th...
Coumarins are important plant-derived natural products with wide-ranging bioactivities and extensive applications. In this study, we evaluated for the first time the antibacterial activity and mechanisms of action of coumarins against the phytopathogen Ralstonia solanacearum, and investigated the effect of functional group substitution. We first tested the antibacterial activity of 18 plant-der...
