| In the usual ARQ (Automatic-Repeat-Request) communication protocols, when the receiver detects the presence of errors in a received message, it requests the retrans-mission of another copy of the message, and the process continues until an uncorrupted copy reaches the destination. If the quality of the channel is poor, the number of retransmissions may become very large. In order to improve t...
Reducing the lnternet trafic is a requirement to shpre the bandwidth wirh many sessions. When circuit switched applications are ported on to the Inferner, bandwidth saving becomes all rhe more prominent. An eficienr adaptable tltreslrold V . (Voice Activiry Detection) for Voice over IP s-ystems are presented in rhispaper. The discussion includes two energy-based algorithm with higher order thre...
A number of corpus-based extraction techniques have been successfully implemented which derive lists of similar words, based on some deenition of the context in which they are found, from a corpus. We present here the results of aaning such a list in order to extract semantic axes expressing nuances of a word's meaning. These semantic axes represent corpus-based meaning distinctions that are ba...
In this paper we complement our recent result on the explicit formula for the planar limit of the free energy of the two–matrix model by computing the second and third order observables of the model in terms of canonical structures of the underlying genus g spectral curve. In particular we provide explicit formulas for any three–loop correlator of the model. Some explicit examples are worked out.
We have extended, from order 12 through order 25, the high-temperature series expansions (in zero magnetic field) for the spin-spin correlations of the spinS Ising models on the square, simple-cubic and body-centered-cubic lattices. On the basis of this large set of data, we confirm accurately the validity of the scaling and universality hypotheses by resuming several tests which involve the co...
Most sequence-learning studies have confounded different types of information, making it difficult to know precisely what is learned. Addressing many of the confounds, the current study shows that people can learn 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-order transition probabilities. Measures directly assessing awareness of the probabilities show that the knowledge is implicit early in training and becomes explic...
