A single-chain antibody library against Eimeria tenella sporozoites was constructed by phage display. Antibody-displaying phage was selected in five panning rounds against cryopreserved E. tenella sporozoites. A 1000-fold increase in phage output and a 3000-fold enrichment were obtained after three rounds of panning, as the binding clones became the dominant population in the library. Ten clone...

The aim of this investigation was to detect and examine the distribution of the CD3–T lymphocyte cell population of the Bursa Fabricius in chickens experimentally infected with Eimeria tenella. Slices of archived samples of Bursa were examined using the of direct peroxidase (DP) method. CD3–T lymphocytes were detected with human anti-CD3 antibody. They were localized in the cortico-medullary la...

We conducted a survey in broiler farms from Romania to establish prevalence and distribution of Eimeria species using single PCR assay. We found Eimeria spp. in 21 (91%) out of 23 flocks, and in 11 (92%) out of 12 farms. Four species of Eimeria were identified: E. acervulina (21/23; 91%), E. tenella (14/23; 61%), E. maxima (5/23; 22%) and E. praecox (3/23; 13%). Infection with a single species ...

This report described Sarcocystis-like merozoites in peripheral blood smear of a woman with mild fever, rigor and musculoskeletal pain. Extracellular organisms with a pale blue cytoplasm and one or two nuclei were seen in her blood smear stained with Giemsa. Sarcocystis-like can be considered as a possible cause of some idiopathic febrile diseases.

Finding correct species relationships using phylogeny reconstruction based on molecular data is dependent on several empirical and technical factors. These include the choice of DNA sequence from which phylogeny is to be inferred, the establishment of character homology within a sequence alignment, and the phylogeny algorithm used. Nevertheless, sequencing and phylogeny tools provide a way of t...

background & aims of the study: sarcocystiosis is a zoonosis appeared in domestic animals caused by various species of sarcocystis. this protozoan disease has worldwide distribution among human and many species of animals. humans acquire infection by eating of raw and under cooked beef, pork or mincemeat containing schizonts of sarcocystis hominis and s. suihominis. the aim of present study is ...

Introduction: Hamburger is a popular type of fast foods consumed all over the world. Sarcocystis spp. is a zoonotic parasitic pathogen which endangers safety of meat and meat products. The present study describes the prevalence rate of Sarcocystis spp. in hamburgers in Yazd, Iran using PCR-RFLP. Materials and methods: Raw hamburger samples (100 traditional and 90 industrial) from central re...

BACKGROUND At least 19 glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored surface antigens (SAGs) are expressed specifically by second-generation merozoites of Eimeria tenella, but the ability of these proteins to stimulate immune responses in the chicken is unknown. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Ten SAGs, belonging to two previously defined multigene families (A and B), were expressed as soluble r...

Eimeria tenella is the causative agent of coccidiosis in poultry. Infection of the chicken intestine begins with ingestion of sporulated oocysts releasing sporocysts, which in turn release invasive sporozoites. The monoclonal antibody E2E5 recognizes wall-forming body type II (WFBII) in gametocytes and the WFBII-derived inner wall of oocysts. Here we describe that this antibody also binds to th...

the parasites of genus sarcocystis are among the most commonly found parasites in domestic ruminants and some species of sarcocystis can generate important economic loss when causing clinical and subclinical diseases. sarcocystis hominis, one of the three species of sarcocystis that cause muscular cysts in cattle, can infect the human intestinal tract. there is high infection rate of sarcocyst ...
