BACKGROUND MicroRNA (miRNA)-mediated control of gene expression suggests that miRNAs are interesting targets and/or biomarkers in the treatment of anxiety- and trauma-related disorders, where often memory-associated gene expression is adversely affected. METHODS The role of miRNAs in the rescue of impaired fear extinction was assessed using the 129S1/SvlmJ (S1) mouse model of impaired fear ex...

The 5'-flanking sequence of the mouse epidermal growth factor gene has been isolated from a mouse genomic DNA library. S1 nuclease mapping indicated that the transcription start sites used in the submaxillary gland and the kidney are identical. Computer-aided sequence comparisons have indicated regions of the gene which may be involved in hormonal regulation.

BACKGROUND Determination of vacA mosaicism may be important because specific Helicobacter pylori vacA genotype can be used to predict different clinical outcome. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship of vacA genotypes of Helicobacter pylori to cagA status and its development of peptic ulcer diseases in Korean patients. METHODS Gastric biopsy specimens were obtained from 53 pati...

The tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) has highly pleiotropic effects on cells in culture and on tissues in vivo, including effects on protein kinase C (PKC) activation and gene expression. In order to determine the mechanism of activation of gene transcription by TPA, DNA sequences whose transcription is modulated in cells undergoing a mitogenic response to TPA were isol...

Comment on reversibility We and others have observed differences in the reversibility measured by the QPatch instrument and by manual patch clamp: washout of lipophilic compounds is delayed in the QPatch. The probable reason for this is the presence of unrecorded cells within the chip. One major difference as compared to manual patch clamp is that QPatch does not allow continuous flow of extrac...

case report: recently a 20-day-old layer flock with mortality has been submitted to the pcr lab. infectious bronchitis virus (ibv) has been detected in the clinical samples. results: a phylogenetic tree based on a partial s1 gene sequence showed iranian ibv variant located in lx4-type cluster. this cluster include all qxibv-type detected in china and european countries. the highest sequence hom...

A temperature-sensitive mutant of Escherichia coli was isolated that had a temperature-sensitive defect in ribosomal-wash protein(s) required for translation in vitro of E. coli endogenous messenger ribonucleic acid. It was found that 30S ribosomal protein S1 rescued the defect in the ribosomal-wash protein(s) of the mutant and that the complete restoration to the wild-type level was attained w...

In a transgenic mouse line (Tg8) deficient for the gene encoding monoamine oxidase A (MAOA), we show that the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) lacks the characteristic barrel-like clustering of layer IV neurons, whereas normal pattern formation exists in the thalamus and the trigeminal nuclei. No barrel-like patterns were visible with tenascin or serotonin immunostaining or with labeling of th...

Objective(s): Asthma results from the interaction between genetic and environmental factors. ADAM33 gene on chromosome 20p13 is associated with asthma and airway hyperresponsiveness. Materials and Methods: This is a case-control study, where four SNPs S1 (rs3918396), T1 (rs2280091), T2 (rs2280090), V4 (rs2787094) of ADAM33 gene have been assessed in patients with allergic asthma and normal con...
