Artificial photosynthesis: A novel amphiphilic cobalt(II) polypyridyl complex (CoC12) and an ruthenium photosensitiser (RuC12) were immobilised on liposomes to perform photocatalytic H2 generation in the presence of ascorbate (Hasc?) tris-2-carboxyethylphosphine hydrochloride (TCEP) as sacrificial electron donors. In such conditions, CoC12 was found be photostable, while optimised turnover numb...

The in situ combination of [Ru(PPh3)3(CO)H2] with xantphos is catalytically active for the alkylation of alcohols with the ketonitrile (t)BuC(O)CH2CN in a model oxidation-Knoevenagel-reduction process. The precursor complex [Ru(xantphos)(PPh3)(CO)H2] was isolated and reacted with stoichiometric amounts of PhCH2OH and PhCHO. Under these conditions, the alcohol is decarbonylated to afford [Ru(xan...

The behavior of the compound [RuCl(cym)(H2biim)][BAr'4] (cym = eta6-para-isopropylmethylbenzene, Ar' = 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl), synthesized from [[RuCl(cym)]2(mu-Cl)2], H2biim and NaBAr'4, has been studied as a receptor of anions both in solution and in the solid state.

Abstract Ruthenium‐catalyzed C−H bond activation and tandem cyclization of 2‐arylimidazo[1,2‐ a ]pyridines with iodonium ylides proceed efficiently. For the first time, easily available inexpensive ruthenium complex were employed to synthesize pyrido[1,2‐ ]benzimidazole derivatives in good yields under simple easy‐to‐operate conditions. Several primary mechanism investigations synthetic applica...

The first catalytic synthesis of exocyclic 1,3-dienylphosphine oxides was achieved by the ruthenium-catalyzed selective hydrophosphinylative cyclization of 1,6-diynes. A plausible mechanism involving a ruthenacyclopentatriene intermediate is proposed on the basis of the DFT calculations of model ruthenium complexes.

A combination of ruthenium and photoredox catalysis allowed the ortho olefination of phenols. Using visible light, the direct C-H functionalization of o-(2-pyridyl)phenols occurred, and diverse phenol ethers were obtained in good yields. The regeneration of the ruthenium catalyst was accomplished by a photoredox-catalyzed oxidative process.

Two possible reactive sites (the oxo site and the Ru site) for water on a high-valent ruthenium(V) oxo complex were examined. Our results suggest that the reaction on the ruthenium (via a seven coordinate intermediate) has both a lower barrier and a product with a lower free energy than the product of addition at the oxo.

A synthetic route with two consecutive coordination chemistry steps on a solid support affords tris-heteroleptic ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes with high purity and in good yields. As an application we report the identification of a nanomolar acetylcholinesterase inhibitor from a small ruthenium complex library synthesized on Lanterns.

An efficient amino acid-/self-/base-/ruthenium-/thermal-catalyzed two-step process for the synthesis of functionalized drug-like carbocycles was achieved through combinations of cascade TCRA/C-allylation/enyne-RCM/Diels-Alder reactions as key steps starting from simple acyclic substrates. In this communication, we report the two-step synthesis of drug-like carbocycles through a combination of o...

A versatile heterogeneous photocatalysis protocol was developed by using ruthenium bipyridyl tethered porous organosilica (Ru-POS). The versatility of the Ru-POS catalyst in organo-photocatalysis was explored by (i) oxidative aromatization of Hantzsch ester, (ii) reductive dehalogenation of alkyl halides, and (iii) functional group interconversion (FGI) of alcohols to alkyl halides.
