AIM To identify rapidly and accurately coryneform bacteria, using a commercial strip system. METHODS Ninety eight strains of Corynebacterium species and 62 additional strains belonging to genera Erysipelothrix, Oerskovia, Rhodococcus, Actinomyces, Archanobacterium, Gardnerella and Listeria were studied. Bacteria were identified using conventional biochemical tests and a commercial system (API...

Gasoline-contaminated soil from Isfahan, Iran was selected to isolate a bacterium capable of desulfurizing dibenzothiophene (DBT). The isolated strain was named R1 and identified as Rhodococcus erythropolis through biochemical tests as well as sequencing of 16S rRNA gene. This strain could efficiently produce 2-hydroxybiphenyl (HBP) from DBT via the 4S metabolic pathway. The highest HBP amount ...

Abstract Microorganisms have evolved different systems for storing carbon during times of stress. In the cell's natural environment, the stored carbon can then be utilized for growth when other nutrients are in better supply. Storage of carbon and other nutrients is ubiquitous ...

rhodococcus fmf is a gram-positive bacterium isolated for the first time from soil samples of tabriz refinery in iran. this microorganism is able to catabolize dibenzothiophene to 2-hydroxybiphenyl and inorganic sulfur without the destruction of carbon-carbon bonds. three structural genes, dsza, dszb, and dszc have been characterized and shown to be responsible for this phenotype. in this work,...

Rhodococcus erythropolis strains have shown excellent characteristics in petroleum oil biodesulfurization. Here we present the first announcement of the draft genome sequence of an efficient biodesulfurizing bacterium named R. erythropolis XP (7,229,582 bp). The biodesulfurizing genes dszABC are located on a plasmid, while the flavin reductase gene dszD is located on the chromosome.

Lariatin A, an 18-residue lasso peptide encoded by the five-gene cluster larABCDE, displays potent and selective anti-mycobacterial activity. The structural feature is an N-terminal macrolactam ring, through which the C-terminal passed to form the rigid lariat-protoknot structure. In the present study, we established a convergent expression system by the strategy in which larA mutant gene-carry...

The actinobacterium Rhodococcus sp. JG-3 is an aerobic, eurypsychrophilic, soil bacterium isolated from permafrost in the hyper arid Upper Dry Valleys of Antarctica. It is yellow pigmented, gram positive, moderately halotolerant and capable of growth from 30 °C down to at least -5 °C. The 5.28 Mb high-quality-draft genome is arranged into 6 scaffolds, containing 9 contigs and 4998 protein codin...

MICs of daptomycin, linezolid, and vancomycin against 212 isolates, including Listeria monocytogenes and Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, Rhodococcus, and Nocardia spp., were determined by the broth microdilution method; daptomycin MICs were also determined by the Etest. Except with those for Leuconostoc spp., daptomycin Etest MICs showed >90% agreement with MICs obtained by the broth microdilution me...

A nitrile utilizing bacterium Rhodococcus sp. MTB5 was previously isolated in our laboratory by the enrichment culture technique. It is able to utilize butyronitrile as sole carbon, nitrogen, and energy source. Maximum butyronitrile degrading property of this strain has been investigated. Results reveal that 100, 98, and 88 % degradation was achieved for 2, 2.5, and 3 % butyronitrile, respectiv...

We recently reported that the overexpression of GroEL2 played an important role in increasing the alkane tolerance of Rhodococcus erythropolis PR4. In the present study, we examined the effects of the introduction of groEL2 on the alkane tolerance of other Rhodococcus strains. The introduction of groEL2 into Rhodococcus strains led to increased alkane tolerance. The translocation of R. rhodochr...
