The primary hypothesis of this study was that the cough motor pattern is produced, at least in part, by the medullary respiratory neuronal network in response to inputs from "cough" and pulmonary stretch receptor relay neurons in the nucleus tractus solitarii. Computer simulations of a distributed network model with proposed connections from the nucleus tractus solitarii to ventrolateral medull...
The paper studies the breathing patterns for four types of Chinese metrical poems, namely, fivecharacter quatrain, five-character octave, sevencharacter quatrain and seven-character octave. A breathing belt was tied to the chest and the respiratory signal was acquired by EMG. Respiratory parameters were defined regarding the dynamical properties of the signal, and were automatically extracted b...
background: agate is a hard silica stone with bands of various colors, which is used in jewelry. the agate grinding workers are exposed to silica dust. objective: to determine the prevalence of respiratory diseases in agate grinding workers and the associated factors. methods: in this cross-sectional study, 170 agate grinding workers from mashhad, northeastern iran, were examined. medical and o...
Vancomycin dispositions in the respiratory system were compared after systemic and inhalatory administration under two respiratory conditions using the isolated-lung model. Inhalatory delivery led to much higher drug levels in pulmonary tissue and fluids. The respiratory pattern affects vancomycin disposition in the pulmonary system regardless of the administration route.
Hybrid Phase ordering with Automatic Window Selection (HybridPAWS) improves respiratory-navigator efficiency during 3D late-gadolinium enhancement CMR in patients with chronic heart failure and irregular respiratory pattern. When there is a low gating efficiency (<40%) observed with standard respiratory-gated method, HybridPAWS technique resulted in a significantly greater improvement in naviga...
Myasthenic gravis may affect both inspiratory and expiratory muscles. Respiratory involvement occurred in almost all patients with myasthenia gravis in all clinical forms of the disease: 332 lung function tests done in 324 myasthenic patients without respiratory symptoms (age 34.6 +/- 18.3 years) were examined. Lung volumes analysis showed that all the patients of both sexes with generalized or...
The functional anatomy of the respiratory muscles and their actions and interactions are presented, particularly of the diaphragm. The large amount of blood flow to respiratory muscles and the determination of blood flow are reviewed, while the role these muscles play in the overall economy of the body in health and disease are discussed. Finally the failure of the respiratory muscles in the co...
