Accurate quantitative measurement of drugs and their metabolites is important as this can be used to establish long-term abuse of illicit materials as well as establish accurate drug dosing for legal therapeutics. However, the levels of drugs and xenometabolites found in human body fluids necessitate methods that are highly sensitive as well as reproducible with the potential for portability. R...

The synthesis of two asymmetric dinuclear complexes with the formula [M(bpy)(2)(bpt)Ru(tpy)Cl](2+), where M = Ru (1a), Os(2a); bpy = 2,2'-bipyridyl; Hbpt = 3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)1,2,4-triazole and tpy = 2,2',6',2''-terpyridine, is reported. The compounds obtained are characterized by mass spectrometry, (1)H NMR, UV/vis/NIR absorption, luminescence, and resonance Raman spectroscopy. Deuterium iso...

A non-sooting lifted methane/air coflowing non-premixed flame has been studied experimentally and computationally. The flame structure was computed using a model that solves the fully elliptic governing equations, utilizes detailed transport coefficients and a chemical kinetic mechanism with C1 to C6 hydrocarbons, and includes an optically thin radiation submodel. Gas temperature, major species...

This report examines lipophilic extracts containing mycolic acids isolated from tuberculosis (MTB) and non-tuberculosis (NTM) mycobacterial strains using chromatography, mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Raman spectroscopy. Gas chromatography-MS was used to identify major fatty acid mycolate components, while proton NMR confirmed the presence of characteristic cis- a...

In this article, we present an investigation of (Ge + SiO2)/SiO2 multilayers deposited by magnetron sputtering and subsequently annealed at different temperatures. The structural properties were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, grazing incidence small angles X-ray scattering, Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, Raman, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. We show a format...

The surface chemistry of plasma fluorinated vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (vCNT) is correlated to the CF4 plasma chemical composition. The results obtained via FTIR and mass spectrometry are combined with the XPS and Raman analysis of the sample surface showing the dependence on different plasma parameters (power, time and distance from the plasma region) on the resulting fluorination. Ph...

Erbium-doped low-dimensional Si films with different microstructures were grown by reactive magnetron sputtering on glass substrates by varying the deposition parameters. Their structure and chemical composition were studied by micro-Raman and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, respectively. In this contribution the Erbium emission is studied as a function of nanocrystalline fraction and a...

BACKGROUND Oils and bioproducts extracted from cultivated algae can be used as sustainable feedstock for fuels, nutritional supplements, and other bio-based products. Discovery and isolation of new algal species and their subsequent optimization are needed to achieve economical feasibility for industrial applications. Here we describe and validate a workflow for in situ analysis of algal lipids...

One of the most important uses of THz spectrometry is to detect defects in molecular structure or in crystals efficiently. We applied GaP Raman THz (GRT) spectrometer to detect and evaluate defects in inorganic and organic materials. High THz-wave absorption due to high defect density of GaSe crystal lowered the efficiency of THz wave generation, when the crystal is used as nonlinear material f...

FT-Raman Spectra of Saffron (crocus sativus L.) with a partial assignment is reported. Based on the Raman data, it is concluded that main pigments in saffron are crocins and crocetin. It is proposed that the quickly attainable FT-Raman spectrum of solid saffron, may be used as a means of saffron standardization.
